Is there a way to backup saves?

I want to do a reinstall as the game has refused to open since nearly two weeks ago, but i had a save that was really far along that i'd like to keep. Is there any way to do that? i know sometimes steam backs up saves but i dont know if this does, so any help on that would be great.

and just saving them somewhere else, reinstalling the game, and putting it back in there should work?

Yes, just save them to a different drive/USB. Even uploading to dropbox would work.

I still would do it just in case, but i just reinstalled it and the saves were still there before i plugged my drive in so it should be safe to just do a reinstall whenever
