Is it just me or is fighting with a sword on horseback difficult?
I don't manage to hit people often, unless I charge right in the middle of them. I've been thinking about it a bit and its probably because cavalry is meant to use a lance/spear as a primary weapon instead of a sword.

How tall is your character? I was having the same problem, but saw someone else say that tall characters have issues with reach while on horseback. My character was at the maximum height. I rolled a new character at minimum height, and it definitely became much easier.

I hope this gets fixed relatively quickly, either by the devs or by mods, because a tall melee character on horseback is borderline useless right now.

This could be it. I made my character slightly above average in terms of height. I'm gonna make a new character and see how it goes.

Yeah, I just fought a few battles as a shorter character and thats likely a contributing factor. I managed to kill more people on horseback than with my taller character.

Buy or forge a longer sword, much, much, much easier.
Yeah, weapon reach become much more important on horseback for obvious reasons.

Yep same with WB. Lances work great on horseback. Takes practice.

For some reason swinging with lances does much more damage than stabbing, like 200 swing damage to 40 stab. it feels a bit bugged

Are you using a lance that can be couched or are you just poking with it? Even with my ♥♥♥♥♥♥ stats couched lance deals 100-700 damage depending on where it hit and the amount of armor the target has. If you are poking with it, make sure that it hits properly. If the character doesn't fully extend the spear/lance/sharp stick it doesn't deal the full damage I think, but one would think the speed from galloping horse would make up for it.

im talking about poking with it, couching does massive damage not questioning that. its just a good swing does more than a good stab. ive got a feeling its because a swinging lance has more speed than a stabbing one.

The length of the sword really does help. I've been much more effective with a 116 reach sword then I was with an 89.

Yea it's the hitboxes and the new wonky animations, hopefully they all get reworked because old animations were way smoother and didn't have problems connecting.....Atm reminds me of playing war of the roses which was a bad m&b knockoff.

This is definitely true, but characters who are at maximum height still struggle even with very long blades. With a sword of 130 length, I had to get close enough to be hit by small one-handed weapons to even graze someone
Good tips, thanks! I was having the same issue.

That explains a lot. I was swinging my sword on my horse while standing still and it still missed even though the animation would have been right through the guys skull. Guess I'll go Dwarf and become a god on horseback.

It is important to have good reach/length on horseback. axe works well
