How to promote "Imperial Vigla Recruit"?
One of them has enough XP and the upgrade button says "Required: Horse (you have none)"

but I do have a horse and a saddle in my inventory:

Am I missing something?

Stupid bug

Found out it works with a more expensive desert horse. The very cheap sumpter horse doesn't seem to work. Not sure if that's intentional or bug.

Stumper horse has other category. You need horse with actual horse category, to be used as mount.

Well that's a little unclear in the game. It does say "Type: Horse" for the sumpter horse and I can ride it myself. So it's strange why I wouldn't be able to use it to upgrade troops.

If i'm correct, that desert horse is classed as a war horse so maybe the imperial vigla recruit needs a warhorse to be promoted.

Desert Horse actually says "Horse Type: Horse" so a little different to the sumpter horse. I still wonder if that's a bug. From the game it's really unclear.

I had an imperial charger in my inventory and it didnt let me upgrade my recruit either. I forgot what horse i used but i did get it to work with a different horse as well.

Hope change how you recruit cavalry to make it with any horse.

Since this is still a problem 2 years later... The sturgian native of all things allowed me to upgrade the imperial vigla recruit.

1) "trading-horse"
2) "riding-horse"
3) "war-horse"
4) "noble-horse"

you only need 2) for light-cavalry and 3) for heavy-cavalry

This is not a "problem" 2 years later...

as has been said, it was confusion on the players part (I made same mistake... once.. 2.5 years ago...) Sumpter horses and Mules (used to be the only) are pack animals. They carry weight.

Sumpter is even more confusing because the player used to (maybe even still does) start with it as a riding horse.

Even more confusing, some companions can ONLY ride sumpters when they start (needs zero riding skill)

As you level up you see some "riding horses" which are now pretty much called "Mounts" need 10 riding skill.

War Mounts need more .. (this all changed recently, the riding level required for things).

Anyway, it was same in warband, different horses needed different requirements.

A Vigla Recruit SHOULD (imo) be able to use a sumpter. Why not? it's the first tier horse for that troop line. Then again, that would mean a Tier 3 noble doesn't even own a riding horse".. he only has the same sumpter every scrub can ride? until tier 4,, when he gets a war mount?

Anyway, yeah this won't change.. the "problem" is as it will be forever is my guess. Pack animals cant be used as Mounts for troops but Sumpter CAN be used by companions and player. Workhorses (new horse) are UBER pack horses.

Mounts are for beginning troops that ride, and companions too... warmounts are the next tier. and the TOP tier needed for troops.

Companions and player can go even higher, and get nobles and such.

confusing at first? yep. But a "problem" not really. and it wont be changed.
