I have noticed that the horses have types. I would imagine it's the War Horse type that is specifically used for unit upgrades?
To upgrade infantry to cavalry, you need to consume a horse. Please play the game before spreading misinformation.
Yes you can. Make sure they have the necessary riding skill. Each horse requires a different riding skill.
In fact, high level cavalry troops require WARHORSES (at roughly 600 coins a pip - they are pricy stuff)
2. For companions, on the inventory screen you can change who you want to equip with the arrows surrounding the character name, on the top of the screen
