I even took advantage of it to create my own custom Imperial banner with a crusader cross over the bird, along with making the real background layer black and making a purple rectangle behind the bird so that now my clothing palette is primary black with a secondary of North Empire purple, so I can tell my guys apart from allies on the field without using the overhead icons now.

Edit: There's a mod on the Nexus that fixes this by re-syncing the colors when you change them - "Kingdom Color Changer" - https://www.nexusmods.com/mountandblade2bannerlord/mods/396
