How to make archers fire?
I don't get it.

I hit 2 for archers and F4 says "Fire at Will". If I hit F4 that option changes to "Hold Fire". So basically when I choose "Fire at Will" it seems to toggle to "Hold Fire", instead of doing the logical thing and asking them to fire at will.

Thing is, regardless of what the tooltip on F4 is (Fire at Will or Hold Fire), my archers never fire a single arrow.

I don't get it, can anyone elaborate on how to get my archers to fire, and is there a way to just have them on a default "Fire at Will"?

They patched archers recently and that fixed the issue for me.

Unless mods are affecting your game, I have no idea what to say.

I'm not using any mods.

Thought I'd elaborate a bit; when F4 says "Fire at Will" and I hit F4, down below I see "Archers Hold Fire". So I assume when it shows "Fire at Will" they would, but again my archers never fire...

That is a toggle tor hold fire/fire. Much like an on off switch. Just hit it a second time.

Fire at Will is default so pressing once they will Hold Fire. If they're right behind infantry, they won't fire. Get a gap between them (I use some 10 steps maybe?) and they fire overhead frontline soldiers. Or if they're all in one line, they should fire just fine too.

Another thing I could think of, if you have them in your party as second group (I mean, if there is even someone under key 2). When I started the game the first time on 1.0.0, I had to move them to second - Archers - group manually so that's why I thought of that now.

They are on Fire at Will by default. Of you hit it then you are telling them to hold fire.
