Hastati / Triarii troops from where?
So I beat another Lord in battle and some of the prisoners I got were Hastati and Triarii troops, where can I recruit these guys from?

Use the in game encyclopedia to look at the troop tree's. find the faction they are from and go recruit from them.

Ah man, that sucks, was looking forward to creating my roman legion :steamsad:

I'm fairly certain they're from defeating one of the Empire's minor factions/mercenaries.

i can nearly 100% guarantee there will be a faction mod for traditional roman legion units at some point here. don't even despair about this for a second, just a matter of time now.
So, a new patch went through and you might be able to find them as mercs in the taverns. Duno if that's true tho.

Checked like 20 taverns mosrly only default mercs and looters there.Mb just unlucky. But they should make it so u can see what mercs are there without loading into tavern and searching for mercs in the tavern.

Sad to hear this, I just got my first one not knowing what it was but looked sickkk! I was going to get a whole big troop of them and have 2nd infantry with just them. I heard about them but didn't know how to get them. I also am good friends with the leader so maybe it could help me get them when I have my own kingdom?
I think the idea is that the Arenician military reforms obsoleted these troops types. They mirror the IRL Marian Reforms this way. These are essentially republican era troops. Younger, less wealthy Hastati troops would have probably come from the countryside and northern cities, while the better equipped Principes and experienced Triarii would likely have come from the wealthy south. In gameplay terms, these guys probably recruited slowly, were expensive to recruit, and difficult to upgrade.

After the reforms, troops didn't have to buy their own equipment anymore. In Rome, that meant lots of poor-but-capable men could be put to work securing the far flung edges of the empire. In Calradia, it means any farm boy can sign up with a passing war band and have his way paid to become a proper legionnaire and make his fortune from the spoils of war (assuming he lives long enough).

Akshually they're supposed to come from Arencian reform-era professional legions, which have been retired after Pendraic in favor of feudal retinues that are legionaries only in name.

Yeah there is a mod "MyLittleWarband" that you can just copy paste units that you like and also use the unit trees to make a custom unit recruitable by either your clan, or faction, or anywhere depending on what settings you've picked. I used the entire Empire Unit Tree and started tweaking them to what I needed from them and every faction I fight I give them more or less a tweak or two to press the advantage like in real life.

The problem I see from superficial inspection of that mod is that it doesn't allow for the little variances seen in vanilla troops (3 to 5 variants each). I do know that'd be a huge bother for the player, of course.
