Also, run forward when you thrust. The game uses real-time physics for damage, so that forward moment transfers directly into more damage. No, I'm not joking, and this even goes so far as to mean Jumping and attacking on the downward fall boosts damage significantly. Albeit at high risk and difficulty to time it right.
Damn though the spear would be useful in keeping enemies back. Well that, and just in case I have to use spears in the tournaments.
Well, at higher levels of the polearm skill it allows you to push enemies back etc, so they might be more viable as duelist weapons with major investment.
Traditionally though, once a swordsmen gets up in a spearman's business, it's bad news bears.
footman vs footman in spear is ♥♥♥♥
Fight with others when using a spear. You can thrust over allied heads to score some damage.
Indeed, that's why I am confused on how spears in mount and blade games are always...weak.
To OP:
As everyones said the spears pretty bad on foot. It sucks if you're like me and like to carry a bow on horseback as well.
If you can remember to, what works for me is keeping a spare 1hs in my inv, before seiges I swap it out.
If you get knocked off your horse use your bow until you can pick a weapon up.
To those saying its not like real life. Its a game. It happens.
