You have to basically have perfect timing when you attack same direction the enemy attacks. I believe you have to attack right before they hit you. In warband I always did it without trying to.

Its pretty hard in BL, but when you start an attack from the same side the enemy swings at before you are hit, you can chamber.
You can also crush through blocks with enough speed.

Also your weapon's hitbox has to collide with theirs, it's not just "chamber frames" as far as i know

You can chamber by aiming the same direction the opponent is. When they are just about to hit, you start your swing, so you first block their attack and then can land your hit straight away. It's very effective since they have very little time to put their defence up.

eg. the opponent swing from the right, you aim right when he is about to strike (remember, in singleplayer the time for them to aim and strike you is easy to learn and identify, less so in multiplayer)

So just one more time for dummies.

1. The opponent releases the attack
2. Right before he hits me, I release as well from the same direction?

From my own testing it seems like you are correct but...

2b. Your attack cant be too late in its start, clicking attack right as they are about to hit you seems to just end with you being hit anyway which makes chambering really hard with slower weapons or against weapons with really fast attacks :/

You have to start your attack with that timing. Basically you are deflecting the enemy's weapon with your windup and then striking him in one single action.

There is a specific timing but right now it is very difficult. I think it's something that will change.

It's the kind of thing you need to practice it until it becomes muscle memory.

just revisit the tutorial area and give it a try but I don't think it's worth doing. at least not in singleplayer with highest combat AI setting because the follow up attack after a chamber block is not even a guaranteed hit.
way too much risk, not enough reward.
