In sieges having Vlandian sharpshooters can almost guarantee a win once you can get the gates open and get them inside they will destroy the shield wall in seconds. In field battles I I hate going up against them if I don't have cavalry but they have to be high tier because early on they are average.
For the most part, i am fairly happy with the different factions, but if i would have to pick a weakest i would say batt. Yes, Fian will carry the Batt all on their own, but they don't have any regular unit archers (why? i dunno) and all their regular units just kinda suck.
Units strength wise: Kuzhait clear winner...
best cavalry by far ( dont say Vlandia, all their cav units get annihilated by elite horse archers khan guard in custom battles and by imperial cataphracts too).
Infantry is dominated by the Empire legionaries and then Vlandia has second best units like their cav and their vlandian sergeants( though Kuzhait elite inf is not bad either ) coupled with the fact that their map position is ideal like Kuzhait.
For archers, Kuzhait and Aserai have the best archers from what i experienced..... i dont count forest bandits/fians because any faction can have them easily, i just talk about the main faction unit tree : it dosnt matter that much if your archers have 175 or 200 bow skills, what really matters is how good is their armor IMO.
#1 Empire
#2 Vlandia
#3 Khuzait / Aserai
#4 Battania
#5 Sturgia
I put Khuzait and Aserai on similar terms since both focus on horses and therefore have similar advantages in open field battles and similar issues in forrests or when doing a siege battle. The signature unit of the Khuzait is the horse archer, for the Aserai it's the Mamluke soldier as well as the Faris. They're both very mobile armies in the field with a small bonus for Khuzait. They can outmaneuver any hostile army - and I'll try them in my next playthrough.
Battanians and Sturgia are the weakest factions. Sturgia suffers from a less than convincing troop tree. Battania comes with the best archers and can do an awful lot of damage in open battle, forrst battle and in sieges. However, their poor position in the world means they're always at war with someone and get wittled down over time - unless they can take land from Sturgia.
Vlandia and Empire factions are a close call. To be honest: if we had an unified Empire, Vlandians would get swarmed with powerful heavy infantry armies that can nullify most of the advantages the Vlandians have. However, the Empire is divided and using most of their resources to fight internally - which gives the Vlandians an edge. So the only reason WHY I put the Empire on top is 'cuz once unified nothing can stop them. That's my currend playthrough.
I get why they say this but fian champions upgrade from forest bandits that you can find everywhere on the map except in the snowy north and southern desert.
In their regular battanian unti tree, there is not a single archer unit... they use ( vey good ) skirmishers.
Fians may be called battanians but like all bandit tree units, they are not exclusive to one faction.
If you are at war with Battania, you won t be able to recruit battanian units from their villages but you can get forest bandits so... they re not really battanian archers just bandits with battanian origins like you can recruit any looter anywhere who dont care about allegiances ( if you are at war with their local kingdom)
just raid and ransom more
