In WB this wasnt difficult to see being played out in the game.
Randomized companions generation is a good idea though i think over all.
There is an overview in the encyclopedia of all companions on the map, just pick one, travel to and hire them.
Not sure but randomly generated if some attention is put into is a good idea. This is important but very possible to do randomly generated and its a good call. Just saying.
The companions were currently seeing are meant to be companions you pretty much just send out on caravans etc.
In my game there is both male and female. Few have any skills that are usefull in the party screen sych as quatermaster or scouting though.
Thats a fun thing in M&B is to go around the map recruiting companions and saving up gold and equipping them.
