How to couch a Lance

Im lost on how to just hold a spear/lance at the level, without having to thrust, and just aim at targets. Is this possible? Ive hear you need to travel at a certain speed and have to press x, but i see no indication of this, as others have mentioned appears on screen

You can only do it with certain spears, indicated by an icon (I believe a horse icon...?) in their info screen. Do that, and you'll notice an icon appear in the bottom right when you reach a certain speed on horseback. That will be when you press X.

You first need to have a two-handed polearm that can couch. It'll say one-handed polearm, two-handed polearm, and couch when you look at it in your inventory. If it doesn't list couch, you cannot couch with it.

Once you have one that can do this, you'll see an icon near your HP bar that shows what position your lance is in. Up-right aiming is at rest, leveled forward is couched.

You need a specific 'couch lance'. Not all spears, pikes etc. will work. If you have the right lance an icon will pop up when you can couch it.

You need a pole arm/lance that has the weapon type 'couch lance' in the list of type of weapons.
Once you got the right type you can couch it by pressing X when riding fast enough (note there's a cooldown between couching).

This is really confusing in game as when you start off with the backgrounds to end up with a lane and implied horseback battle experience, THAT lance doesn't seem to be couchable? And, I duno, I feel like if you can't couch it it's more just a spear at that stage?

yea dude...NONE of them work...I been to every dam town crushed countless armies and every spear doesn't have it...Ive been playing since release all day everyday and NEVER SEEN ONE

Knight's Lance, Vlandian Lance, etc all have it on their info tab.

It has to say it on there. Like One-handed/Two-handed/Couched orange bars.

There is definetly some kind of bug with couching lances/spears. I've been using fine steel menavlion for a long time now and couched it in all my battles yesterday, but when I loaded the game today I can't couch it anymore.

Game got updated. It probably rebalanced some items too (it usually does). Check if it's still got 'couch lance' tag.

Plent work just fine. Knight's lances, Vlandian lances, Khuzait lances, etc etc..

Fine steel menavlions are the equivalent to fine steel spears in the western factions. They're both non-couched lances. Most likely the menavlion being used as a couched lance was a bug on the devs part.

I was able to couch a lance in a tournament yesterday. Does Valandia do all jousting tournaments in Bannerlord like Swadia did in Warband? Might be a way to test?
