Horse archery sucks?
Is it pointless to try to be a horse archer?

It is just way, way more efficient to use a spear or a lance and one shot most of your enemies on the field than trying to circle around and use a bow on horseback, which barely does any damage anyway.
Archery is pretty good in sieges or other places when you are on foot, but on a battlefield it just sucks.

You might not be trying to horse arch properly. Sure, lances can one shot, but the recovery on that stuff takes forever. You could be nailing heads from the flank and potentially kill more than you ever could with a lance.

Try not going full speed when you fire. Being stationary isn't a good thing, but slow down and time your shots properly. Flank a formation, don't shoot from the rear or front. Shooting from the front you're gonna hit shields. Shooting from the rear you'll only hit one person, and have a high chance of missing. When you shoot in from the side, you have the potential to hit one of many targets. At the right angle, you have a chance to hit any number of infantry in that formation, increasing your odds of a hit drastically.

TL;DR, don't shoot at one target. Shoot at a group at an angle that is most likely to hit someone in a group, preferably at the head.

Imo after 3 playthroughs i say horse archery is super op at the begining, but later i find couch lance to be best, and archer perks are not working right now, so use bow at the begining but dont invest points, thats my suggestion
horse archery is really strong

I find it fun. Also efficient when you've a decent amount of troops with you.

Tell your horse archers to follow you and fire at will. Circle around the enemy infantry and archers...Have fun shooting arrows into their masses and hitting every time

Play at realistic and tell me again how great lances are after you and your horse have eaten 5 javelins at point blank range when you tried to charge... Horse archery is the safest approach to basically all kinds of troops. Just don't go full speed all the time, you won't hit anything at full speed with a badly skilled character.

Ahh, I see you havn't tried the fine steel menalavion or glaive yet. Imagine a couchable lance at 205 cm that can also be swung for 180c damage. Trust me here it's good, tough it's a little slow on the swing.

Start new game, make horse archer, start soloing looter parties. After some time you will get it.

You don't do nearly as much damage as you did in the other M&B games, plus the reticle is ridiculously big on horseback even with all the perks

Well, not all perks are implemented yet. I don't know which work and which don't, but it might be that none of the archery perks do anything.

That said, the reticle gets bigger the faster you're riding, so slow down to shoot, speed up to evade, rinse, repeat.
