!!CRITICAL!! Shield bypass
So to put it simply, sometimes the shields are bypassed by enemy weapons. I'm not sure if this is a feature, but it would be nice to know. I've been stabbed through shields, and had weapons hit me through my shield on the side I was blocking. It's not very comforting when the shield only works 75% of the time when blocking attacks. The body parts that are struck make it even less probable, how is my arm, which is behind the shield, getting hit? Unless the hitbox for my arm clips through the shield at very specific areas. I noticed this is most common with the kite shields. I play in 3rd person and I've been watching fairly carefully. I've put in enough time to know when a hit should hit and when it should land on my shield and most of these attacks are clipping past my shield somehow and injuring my character. Please look into this.

Again, its primarily with kite shields, but other shields have rarely done this as well such as the northern round shield. This happens more often in the tournaments as well.

I've never had it happen to me, but I've done it to NPCs before. Riding at a gallop I stabbed a guy who was blocking with his shield, through his shield. The damage report had a purple text (like the kind that announces a head shot) that said something like Overpowered, you crushed through the block.

I'm not sure what determines when this happens, but it seems like this is an intended thing.

It's not like Warband where your shield could block at a 180 degree angle. You still have to directional block somewhat. If your shield is low they can hit you in the head. Same if your shield is to the left, they can hit you from the right. Your shield has to be facing the attack.

Yep az aflicted said, you still need to pay attantion to defense angle, especially against long weapons like the glaive of some bandit hideout bosses.

Worst I've had happen is an arrow that stuck in my shield but still damaged me, and that... might be a feature. If not it still looked cool.

For the instances where weapons on horseback pass through blocks - that is a feature and depends on how fast the horse is traveling.

Makes sense, there's no way some guy on foot is going to stop a charging horse with a mere shield.

As i've said before I will block directionally and the attacks will still go through. I do a lot of the tournaments and it makes no sense that a large flat blade can swing through my solid shield and hit me behind it if it is LITERALLY IN THE WAY. I didn't know straight blades could curve around my shield, slice my throat, and then quickly pull back into a regular sword shape.

I also do a lot of tournaments and it has literally never happened to me, are you actually blocking with the shield or are you just "blocking in the right direction"?

I havent tried it in this but in Warband you could block with the wrong direction as long as that was what the weapon hit first(so.. attack comes from your left, block to the right and then turn left to bring the right side block into the weapon swing).

TL;DR: Just blocking in the right direction doesnt matter if the weapon first hits your character before the shield/weapon you are blocking with. Also, some weapon probably still have some 'crush through' which will bypass blocking.

Yeah its pretty cancerous

Happens often, very noticeable too with non-shield blocking, you can be properly blocking at the correct directional input, and still get hit

Mouse Input doesn't properly work with Directional Blocking about 40% of the time for me, as someone that's fairly competent at knowing which direction I'm aiming my mouse, it is pretty cancerous

They can breakthrough your shields, I've done it before in a tournament my self with a lance, as Alesch said, when it happens you get a purple text in your attack roll saying something like "Breakthrough" I think, I don't really remember what the word precisely was. I assume the higher quality your shield the less likely it is to happen. Since I'm running around with the best shield and never have had it happen to me.

Yeah hit detection seems borked right now, i usually get 2 shields in the arena for the best defense but apparently the shield on my back wont work right now it seems.

Just had it happen again, It says "Crushed Through" Heavy weapons can apperently go straight through some shields and armour.

This. Shield can be broken down, even destroyed. A lance with full force can brake through a sheild. Axes can break a shield completely.

One guy in multiplayer one time destroyed my shield. The other time he cut through, because the axe or lance has a multiplier for it.

I searched for "best shield Bannerlord" after having similar experience with cheap kite shields. Im not sure if they break at first hit, from a one hand Axe but I get hit way to often. Now I changed to the Norse round shields and so far it looks good. Im still looking for better gear as its just random Sea Raider loot. One more thing I suspect, my pc is 2008 and I have lots of laggy stuff going on if its snowing so maybe I get hit because of that?

On my first character I used the Kite Shield that only weighs 2.7 and cost around 6.700- It seemed fine.

Edit: Oh my first char was huge guy, now im playing the smallest guy and it seems to make a big difference when avoiding missile fire and hiding behind shield. Just like when we could play a child :)

Everytime i see a thread labeled "!!!CRITICAL!!!" i know it is not a critical issue.

Shields have directional block, they can only block what their hitbox hit, so bypassing shields by sidestepping and aiming for unprotected limbs is a thing. Pretty realistic imo.
Also couched lances can crush through with enough speed bonus.
