Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord

What makes this game so good?
Just bought it today, played the tutorial and fought a few battles. Playing on my bed with the roccat couch keyboard. Not used to games like this or gaming with keyboard and mouse.

What are some things that makes this game great? I'm optimistic about it, and just want to gain more perspective starting out. Is it because you eventually do this big huge battles? Does it have nice rpg elements? What is the draw here?

I really enjoy many other games, from Skyrim to Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Much much more.

So what do you have for me?

It is the grand son of Mount and Blade.
Multiplayer is fun in this game? Also, never really played the first one so dont have that to compare
It's the only game of it's kind, that's the main selling point as there is no comparable game. It fills a niche that has no competition and does it relatively well.

It's a medieval sandbox RPG. There is no storyline but the storyline you create for yourself. The game mechanics give you enough options for emergent gameplay. You can be an outlaw, a trader, a raider, be a mercenary for a king, become part of a kingdom and partake in sieges, get a fief like a castle, village or city from your king. Become a king yourself and create a kingdom. Fight in tournaments to make a name for yourself. Marry and have children. The game just gives you endless ways of roleplaying possibilities.

The only other remotely comparable games I know are Kenshi and Starsector.

This really, especially if we get 100 year wars MOD, just awesome then. Napoleon DLC was awesome also. So much fun.

keyboard and mouse.

That's exactly what makes this game so good.
TBh yes those big battles are the main selling point for me, and a working world that you can eventually conquer as you grow in power.

It´s also a little like Total war without all the complex politics and you can participate yourself in the battles.

EVentually there will be mods, which letts you dive into the worlds of LOTR, StarWars, GameOFThrones etc. pp.

You have to connect the dots a bit, but if you can fill in the blanks with your imagination, the roleplaying aspect is superb. Partially because it puts you in a very realistic setting. Even if you're clad head to toe in heavy armor, you can be killed by a bunch of peasant farmers if you're not careful. You feel like a human being in a medieval world.

Another thing that does indeed make it fun is the eventual huge battles you get into. Those can get really intense. As you get more comfortable and the battles become less jarring, you start to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment as you go from a wide-eyed greenhorn experiencing his first command to a grizzled veteran who's seen the tricks and is comfortable at the helm of an army of hundreds.

So far I like rolling around like a big wang general on my horse commanding my forces to destroy things.

Everything else is a bonus really.

Absolutely. They hopefully slow the steamrolling down a bit I am sure they will quickly. I heard there are a couple of mods to help against someone rolling the whole map. Hope to play more this weekend.

Yeah I remember them mentioning several ways they want to try and tackle this issue. They did say that of course it can never be completely prevented, it's within game design that it's possible for a kingdom to become super large on it's own, but it shouldn't happen earlier than 20 years in they said. Some fixes can probably be applied soon but other things (like rebellions) will only be applied in the coming months.
Yeah hope they do so soon, it makes having children and stuff useless if game basically ends in the first year..

Yeah, and that's fine. I'm alright with it being possible, I just want it to be a little less normal. :D
I hope there will be firearms at some point.
Not in the main game of course, unless a mod adds it. Timeframe barely fits crossbows let alone firearms.
Perhaps a renaissance DLC, or hell maybe they'll simply add another time period to choose from.
