Can't roleplay as a peasant or a noble
Who asked for a storyline...? Seriously, what a downgrade.

you dont have to play with a story line, I think you can also turn it of if you want. Dude you can be a trader, mercenary noble or even a king. wtf are you talking about?

I've played for twenty hours and still haven't done the quest. I actually forgot about it entirely until reading this thread.

You have to do the storyline to get upgrades and get ability to start a kingdom. Also tutorial is basically a forced storyline mission. The game gives your character a background, instead of you coming up with one like in Warband. I bet you didn't even play Warband. In that game when you first created your character you could chose your background, a hunter, noble, blacksmith etc. This also affected your starting gear. It's much more streamlined in this game, you make some choices about your childhood, but you are basically selecting your starting skills. It no longer feels like a sandbox game. You CAN'T be a noble in this game, stop lying. You must be born noble to be a noble, you can't just become one.
Another thing: you can't just be a roaming bandit, because skill that lets you upgrade bandit units is a MID GAME one. Yup. Its trash.

Pretty sure if you select the "Native" module you get just a generic sandbox game. I haven't tried it so I can't confirm or deny that, it may not even be implemented right now, but that is the assumption that I have at the moment.

The starting skills are a minor boost. Even if you pick all the same skills you'll still be incompetent by any reasonable standard. You need to build up all your skills from the ground up. That is as sandbox as it gets in terms of character development.

The talking to lords thing is annoying but after that you're free to do whatever you want. It's not that bad. You can start your own kingdom after your clan tier is high enough or just join an existing one if you want to.

IT IS BAD. It's a forced background for your character in a SANDBOX ROLEPLAYING game. Also it forces you to explore the entire map before you can start a kingdom, so you can't roleplay as someone who settled down in one region. And it takes like 5 hours of playtime to finish it (or more)

I was disappointed to get the banner right out the gate. I always liked getting a banner when you join the nobility and get some fiefs in warband.

To error: there are 2 ways to be a noble, you are born with it or you earn it. You can be a noble in this game, otherwise you would not be able to own land.

You know you can completely disregard the 'main' story, right?

"completely" what about forced storyline tutorial mission? That plays EVERY single time you start a new playthrough? This is annoying as I always liked to start multiple playthrough, because I enjoyed early game gameplay. And you can't disregard it if you want to start a kingdom. Above all its stuck in your quest log, so you can't truly "disregard" it.

I skipped it on my first playthrough. Which you should know to be an option if you read.

Edit:
You would know if you owned the game. Your complaint is invalid.

You still get the backstory of "you escaped bandits" and need to rescue some kids from a bandit though. Even if you skip the tutorial the brother still tells you about that.

It's the same thing people didn't like about fallout 4, we don't want a set back story in a sand box game.

you can skip tutorial windows, but not the mission itself, unless I missed something. I played at my friend's house

and as the guy above me said, the backstory is still there

You can disregard the mission and be completely fine.
