Archers not firing
As stated, archers/crossbowmen wont shoot sometime. With clear view of enemy, spreadout, told to fire and not hold fire. They stay like this for entire start and end of combat. But the next battle they work just fine.
I'm sure devs will work on this in time, but... Does anyone know a fix for now? Then please let me know.

Answears to your questions.
It can happen day and night.
They refuse to fire no matter if any friendly units stand in front of them.
Tried using fire at will button. The only difference is they just remove or add their bows to their hands.

Was it at night?

If you give attack command - they will fire.
Some bug, when they are not fire in hold position

I have the same especially during snow

In some circumstances, i.e. bandit camp raids, you need to issue the command to "fire at will". I think it's f4 by default.

Move your infantry out of the way I've notice they won't fire with infantry in front of them

I'd love to have a pause to give order to my troops during a battle. that menu is hard to navigate in the middle of action.

Hell, even just a pre-planner before a battle to give them a couple of order, planify formations and stuff like that

You can put them in to groupings in the party tab so you can issue separate orders (I don't think this lest you split units of the same type though)

I have the same issue, they don't fire until the enemy is literally in pissing distance. This bug needs to be fixed asap as its gamebreaking.

Same here. I just fought a battle. I had battle advantage so the enemy grouped up and awaited me, so for once I had more than 5 seconds to issue commands. I took the opportunity to fiddle with various commands and formations. Finally, with a beautiful shield wall centered on 15 legionarys, with the high ground, I positioned 7 crossbowmen with clear field of view to attrit the enemy before they charged. Well, they didn't fire. I used every conceivable command. Nothing. Finally, not giving a crap anymore and exasperated (I saved the game right before the fight due to potential shannigans like this), I ordered the ranged into spitting distance and they finally started to fire. Confounding, because with my rinky dink bow, I was able to hit the enemy from much greater distance with ease. This must be fixed.

I've noticed that if it's "mildly" dark, or if it's snowing, the archers simply will not shoot the enemy until they can see the white in their eyes. I am guessing that they plan on making archers shoot at a shorter distance but messed some values up.

Hopefully they will reconsider this idea and instead of reducing their reach, they simply get panalty to their aiming.

It can be super bright outside and they still won't shoot, so idk man.

Same issue, they dont engage until I command a charge.

Hi, so an update and a good one. I have to agree with Sigxy. I just had another battle. I'm fighting for Northern Empire and trying to pick my fights with equal sized Sturgian parties (40-50). My above post battle was in the dark, literally. So my ranged wouldn't fire until they could smell Sturgian onion breath. Now just had a great fight. I'm getting familiar with formations and assigning groups - excellent to have infantry and heavy infantry groups - can really start to array forces tactically, etc.. Anyway, this fight was in broad daylight and my ranged started to fire at distances an M1A would be proud. So, time of day and I imagine weather is factored in. Pretty cool; now have to make decisions when to engage. More real, and better now I know its not a bug. Well, lets hope I don't come back with a bad update.

Oh, and some northern heavy armor piece dropped. 19k sell price. Woot!

That is really cool German Orca. I just bought the game and I'm reading the forums while it's downloading.
