How to get a companion that has scouting skills.
All the companions i found till now (6 or 7) are kinda incompetent and only have fighting skills

There is one, but you just have to keep checking taverns until you find a scout.

I was thinking the point was that we needed to train them up to fill the roles we want them to do? I foolishly selected the auto-level-up thing but in my next game, I'll make them into the warriors I need them to be.

My current companions are just the first people I met in taverns, etc. None of them seem particularly skilled in any one thing or another?
There is one that is a scout, I think his name is frostbeard or something

Indeed, look for companions with "Frostbeard" or, to a lesser extent, "The fish".

you can see the type of the companion in the tavern screen. hover over the companion. i think the type for scouts is wanderer or at least this guys should have some points in scouting... will check it after lunch.

I always use the encyclopedia to find out what companions I want and where they are. Sometimes locations can be bugged though. I have never seen a companion good at say engineering or stewarding though, anyone else gotten lucky with that?

N is how we get to the encyclopedia? You're awesome! I've been taking a long way around that is rather annoying.

The wanderer portion of the encyclopedia doesnt work half of the time. Sometimes they arent at the location specified. And sometimes they dont even exist.
