Fiefs
If you've played appropriately and made sure to get your followers set up with their own armies you can just go around the map taking down whomever you're at war with.
I made 313K casually before my game ended just off of selling PoWs and the loot I got from them alongside my fief and caravan income.

1 caravan's loot + prisoners can easily net you anywhere between 4-8K+
For example after fighting the garrison of a castle and maybe a army of 3 lords, I got 10k from selling items alone. Also, enemy lords tend to go for 1500 each at the slave trader at the tavern and i think upper teir prisoners go for 100 each.
After you have 15k and a companion to spare you can make a caravan by talking to notables at a town. They have an upkeep of 250, but after awhile they can make 900 - 1500 a day.
Also get a town gives you 900 a day + their villages.
Later on: bulk buy bulk sell food
im currently on a save with 450 donkeys , where i go to some towns "buy all cheap food"(causes hunger/minus prosperity but not my problem) and selling it on other side of map
you would think that profit on cheap goods would not be big but when your getting 5-12 gold profit on 5000 of various foods it becomes ridicules
food is alweys being eaten , there is alweys demand on it anywhere
one town already went down in 1000 prosperity by me doing this just for 10 ingame weeks
become Nestle of this universe where food is not human right:)
they will tell you they made 46 gold profit per oil for selling them in the next city over. so you go to the market, buy about half of the oil or as much as you can carry (keep in mind the prices change when you buy large numbers) and start traveling to that city, there always check that you are indeed selling at a profit, and find new people to talk to in this city.
remember to not spend all your gold on goods even if they are profitable, as it is bad for morale if you can't pay the daily gold to your men.
I'm doing a merchant run, and that tactic is very useful early game.
Now I've traveled the map alot and seen lots of prices, so now I see alot of trade rumors without going to taverns, but occasionally those patrons still tell me really useful things I haven't reached yet.
So best solution is to get towns under your control?
