Sumpter horses or mules
Is there any difference beside the price if you are using them for extra carry capacity? I seem to be able to get the horses from 30-50 coins each while the mules are over 100.

I was wondering the same thing. I can't see any disadvantages of sumpter horses compared to mules, they are even better as mounts for your companions if you are in a pinch. Bump

I have found some cheaper mules, but nowhere near as cheap as sumpter horses. I have bought sumpter horses for as little as 16 coins, while I have NEVER seen mules for under 40. And yeah, as you mentioned they can make OK mounts in a pinch.

This mechanic of needing horses to keep the company speed up on the world map is strange gameplay-wise. Even stranger is the fact that upgrade foot soldiers to cavalry eat up one horse, without even noticing you.
It makes you stockpile on horse, on they lost their value, whereas in Warband, you actually took time to look for a good horse.

Horses are for speed, mules for weight. Later on you need horses to upgrade certain units.

Mules have higher resale potential, do you guys know if having TOO MUCH carrying capacity in your party slows you down at some point?

The cost to promote lists both the cost in money and whether or not it needs a "Horse" or "War Horse." I actually like this detail. It makes you plan in order to develop a mounted force instead of materializing one out of thin air.

I believe when you hover over the speed stats a sumter horse will give you 100+ capacity and from my understanding don't effect your speed in campaign map. The mule and all other horses from my understanding will give +20 to capacity and will effect your speed in campaign map. or is it affect, whatever...

Also there is somewhere on one of the screens that says when you upgrade it will consume a horse, I don't know exactly where but I'm positive it said it on a hover or tooltip somewhere because I remember reading it and saying well that nice to know, they should have made it more obvious this is kind of buried....

Mules give 100, sumpter horses give 100 and neither of them can be used to upgrade your cav units.

They are both just for carry capacity.

mules give 100 carry, sumpters give speed movement. IIRC sumpters increase carry weight up to the first few, (4 maybe 6) after that zilch.

I am working off 1,002 and sumpters DO give 100 carry capacity, I have over 5k carry capacity with only sumpters and no mules with only 30 men. Look at your carry capacity change when you buy or sell them.

I've had sumpter horses in the hundreds and it didn't seem to make any difference to map speed personally

unless they changed something how so, I don't have mule and have 10 sumters with 100+ cap. each.

I save all horses, except sumpter and mules. They are garbage.

Problem is, for some reason I can't save war horses.

They vanish from my inventory after a short time, even when I lock them.

Only if you have foot soldiers. It is a modifier on your bar you can check. Usually like .40 to .60 depending on the ratio of foot v horses.
