As above.

No,you can't. Which makes the arena basically useless.
Hope the developers or some mods will fix this.

Pity...I agree with you.

Sadly no, but you can get your ass handed to you on a platter by AI archers while you spawn with no shield.

That's about all you got going for you.

This is a basic thing the devs need to fix.

BUT, I do think that the Warband mechanics for the Arena and players using it for "training" was a bit overpowered. What we need is a system that allows the Arena to be useful, but not something that can be easily abused. Maybe something where a player can only earn "just so much" in terms of training from the Arena fights?

Right now the exp gain is so low , that i don't mind "abusing" it a little. 12 hours in game and my one hand weapons skill is just 43. In Warband it would be near 200 by that time. But that another story. Maybe they should adjust it so you can't lever a skill over a certain point in the arena fight.

"Abusing" the arena was a time-consuming borefest though, so I wouldn't call it a game-breaking exploit

Nope. Hope they add it, there's next to no incentive to go in the arena fights (not tourneys, although the betting should be higher IMO but that's another topic), the cash rewards are pretty pitiful and that's it.

Or, perhaps an Arena Fight might be required to "unlock" higher level skills? A Tournament? A major combat or siege? Probably something accessible to all sorts of gameplay styles would be needed if "unlocks" were considered.

The reason I mention "Unlocks" is that there are a number of "walls" that can be put in place to limit the player advancing gameplay. "Unlocks" or hard walls are one, "Slow Advancement" is another.

You've got 12 hours in... First - Congrats! :) Second... Yeah, that skill sort of sucks. :)

Maybe the intent there is to limit the player's ability to be a one-man-wrecking-crew? Think of "Prophesy of Pendor" if you've played that Warband mod. If not - It's a much more difficult, much longer, much more dangerous sort of gameplay experience than vanilla "Warband." It takes much longer to become a very powerful notable battlefield destroyer in PoP than in Warband. It's also... something of a more rewarding experience in that respect because of that.

If they've slowed down combat advancement we have to hope that there's enough other "gameplay" to fill the need for "advancement" any player of an RPG naturally looks for.

In your experience, do you feel that the other activities you've engaged in help you "feel like you're advancing" in terms of gameplay even if your weapon skill isn't as high as you'd like?

(I've seen some streamers/players who've been playing for awhile and they seem to be in a similar situation in terms of combat skills, yet they seem to still be finding meaningful things to do and ways to advance other aspects of gameplay.)

Showing yourself in an arena fight to participate in a tournament could be a nice idea! More different arena types like melee only/range only/mounted only that unlocks tournaments accordingly, might be also interesting.Might be modded.

Thank you) I don't feel like i'm a one-man-wrecking-crew because it's much harder(or a least longer) to kill a man.Everyone has more hp.I can't even one shoot a looter with one-handed. And elite cathaphracts absorb ridiculous amount of damage from swords even from piercing strikes. I've played Pendor back than. Really difficult start but eventually you become even stronger than in vanilla. It takes ages to get there though.

I am more or less experienced player, so i know how to progress, but i feel like i'm doing to much unnecessary grinding. Wages are way too high, now with the workshops nerfed into ashes i spend to much time running between cities winning tournaments and trading if possible. Gets old really quickly.Aging doesn't help much too.

By the way , they should have made a progression system with the tournament prizes - i won my best helmet from the first tounament and never got any better. Sometimes they offer like 100 gold prizes.A bit unbalanced imho.

SUPER disappointed there is no experience gain inside the aren/tournaments and its something that should be fixed (or modded) ASAP. Not only does it make no sense, but its incredibly frustrating considering the contenders use *their own armor*.
100% agree that it should be limited, either much slower than combat or 'soft capped' at a certain level to discourage just farming the arena to godhood.
