Unit switching upon death?
Have they mentioned it anywhere?
Would be a nice addition to have, incase your commander dies you can choose another soldier to play as but cant give commands. (or can give commands, whatever goes)

Once you die you die. Its stupid to not make you switch

I think that would be possible in mods. In vanilla it will ruin the gameplay. My opinion. Once you died as a commander, your are dead.
It would be nice tho, but if you die as commander and switch to a soldier, your army will lose morale and start fleeing early. That would be ballanced, i think.

There would be no punishment for dying then. The player is OP compared to the AI. If you could die then take over an AI you could have an enormous amount of lives depending on your armys size.

I have seen another game do it, and while it is more entertaining that way, it is not punishing enough for making mistakes. Which makes the game too easy and boring.

the floris mod on warband puts you in a random member of your army on the field. what would be nice is to allow you to organise a rank system in your army so you can manage it better so you can send out a scout team , or before a battle make a unit with a commander that will allow the AI to organise some of your troops example would be to make a unit of bowman with one and set them to skirmish so you dont end up doing an everyone charge command. I seen some good mods that allow bits.

From a game design standpoint the only way I see this being feasible is through some sort of "Liutenant" system. You've already got companions in the game, so designating one as your Right Hand Man, and taking control of him/her upon your death could work. This way, you only get one more attempt at it, instead of having a million lives.

Of course this falls under the threat if, if your liutenant is already dead/knocked out you can't take control. I think it'd be fair though.

'Control your allies after death 1.5.8'

If you have companions, it will keep switching to them, otherwise to common troops.

Works for me with 1.6.1

People have reported some problems with that mod on newer versions. Crashes and such.

Better use this:
