Flashlight bug
Not sure why but the flashlight isn't working in the game which makes the rest impossible to play. Any solutions?

I actually think it is the overall brightness of the game. I looked at some screenshots and my game seems a lot darker than the screenshots. It might be so dark the flashlight doesn't register. There is no setting for brightness in options and I cannot do anything in properties. Help... :(

I'm very sorry to hear this. I am going to put in a gamma adjustment option for the final build. I will see if I can do that sooner than later... it's going to have to be hand-coded (Unity doesn't provide a gamma option) which is why it's not already done. You might be able to find a gamma option for your PC outside of the game which will solve it...

I'm experiencing this issue too. I messed around with my gamma options on my video card, yet it was to no avail. The flashlight doesn't seem to illuminate anything and adjusting the gamma doesn't show where the beam is directed either (i was hoping to make out the outline of various objects). Perhaps this is a lighting effect problem? I am able to see a reflection of the world on the helmet's visor. I'll try it on a different computer with a different video card to see if this may be the case.

I've got at least one other report that the underground areas were completely black. I'm looking into the issue but so far it seems to be a video card driver / DirectX issue. I'll report back as soon as I have something concrete... again sorry you're having so much trouble with it!

Odd, it played fine on my PC. The bright & dark areas seemed about right. The flashlight worked fine.

Hi guys just to let you know I haven't forgotten about this, but apart from adding a gamma setting (which will take time), I'm not sure what's going on. I have one other person with very weird things happening but also involving the lighting. The best advice is to try updating your graphics drivers. In the meantime, if you can let me know your PC specs that will be of help as I troubleshoot. Thank you for your patience!

My PC is a bit old. Your game ran fine with my older setup.

Intel 3.16 GHZ core 2 duo.
8GB ram
Nvidia 560Ti, 1GB with latest drivers.
2TB WD drive
SB Xfi sound card
Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit
All drivers up to date.
24" LG 1920x1080

I ran the game (beta demo) right through with no bugs, glitchs on the "fantastic" setting.
The voice was a bit hard to hear some times but that was about it for problems.

Well not that I noticed anyway. :)

Aha! So another user that had this trouble reported his discrete graphics card was actually not enabled on his laptop.

So for example, if you've got an Nvidia card, go to Nvidia control panel, Manage 3D Settings, and make sure “Preferred graphics processor” is set to “High-performance NVIDIA processor” under the Global Settings tab. Then make sure under the Program Settings tab that Lifeless Planet is set to “Use global settings...” IF Lifeless Planet is listed. You might also check Steam in the programs list.

Could be there are some issues with Intel Graphics (that would be no surprise). I'll have to dig deeper on that.

The issue of overall darkness is different, I think, and that will be helped with a gamma option. Please let me know if any of you are still having this trouble and we'll get to the bottom of it. And if so, also please let me know your PC specs and (first) make sure your video drivers are up-to-date.

thank you so much i was experiencing this glitch myself and that was the solution for me! i am very appreciative i was enjoying the game so much until i ecountered the glitch and had to go on trying to use the reflection the helmet to get through and that suggestion fixed the issue once again thank you i shall proceed in enjoying the game :)

Appologies it took so long to get around to this. After switching to my dedicated card (Nvidia GeForce GT 740M) the flashlight rendered properly and I was able to complete the level. As I previously mentioned, I tried this on a slightly older laptop with the stellar Intel Graphics. Strangely I encounted no problems with the flashlight. I should clarify what happens when the bug exists. The flashight illuminates as a fuzzy white ball but nothing around the character is displayed. You can see on the helmet visor the reflected world, and where the beam should be shining. I was able to play a short while using the visor to get around until I got to a point where it appears there is some different texture on the floor (blood perhaps??), which illuminates white on the screen when the beam is directed to it (looking at the world, not the visor reflection). To me, it seems rather than being a problem with the display's gamma, it's a problem with something not recognizing the floor is "there" for the lighting effect to illuminate (hence why a texture applied to the floor would show up but the floor would not). My system specs are:

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
Intel i7 -4700MQ CPU @2.4 GHz
16 Gigs DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics 4600 (integrated)
Nvidia GeForce GT 740M (dedicated)

Laptop #2
Windows 7 HP SP1
Intel Pentium CPU B940 @ 2.00 GHz
6 Gigs DDR3 RAM
Intel HD Graphics (integrated)

I'm with sth different. I remember that in lab flashlight was lighting stiff straight ahead even I was looking around up or down. It was very annoying to me that I couldn't flash area which was a bit higher than my head and on which I was looking at.

tptgeek, how playable was this game on your laptop? I currently only own a poor i3 laptop with Intel HD 3000 graphics card. If this game was enjoyable (I am not too picky over fps) then I will go ahead and buy it.

On laptop #2 it was completly playable, framerate wasn't too bad either. As far as I can tell, the bug described earlier has been resolved in this final product. I enjoyed it. It's not an action game, but the story is intriguing and certianly keeps you interested and wanting to finish the game!

Right when i get into the research facility right after the town, i cant see anything. It is completely pitch black and the flashlight is sooo dim i cant see anything. It is very upsetting since i have been so excited for this game.
