Mutual Defense Pacts are Broken

There are several problems with Mutual Defense Pacts. I just got asked by an empire to honor my mutual defense pact with them AGAINST an empire I ALSO have an MDP with. This should NOT be allowed to happen....ever.

Secondly, there is NOWHERE an option to ask an empire to honor THEIR side of a Mutual Defense Pact when MY empire is the one under attack. Ridiculous that they can ask me to honor them when I cannot return the favor....not even an option anywhere under empire interactions.

As to your first issue, I disagree that this is not working as designed. In "real life" it happens all the time that a self-interested nation will have many mutual defense pacts with several countries only to later have those countries suddenly find themselves in their own war, each one asking the third country to honor "their" pact over the other pact with their enemy.

Of course, often the best strategy is to simply stay out of it, but this will have consequences too.

As to your second issue...yeah, I agree, that's a bummer you can't kick the AI in the pants and be all like "You'd better join me, dingus!" I think the dev intended for you to simulate that, by telling them to declare war on the other party or you'll declare war in turn or something. Always has worked for me in the past. Or you know, made things much worse.
