im actually not sure if the font size helps. it might for like the galactopedia but the parts of the game that are hard to read anyway it doesnt have an effect on. i actually just put mine back to normal and ive been fine since they patched.

This is really not playable :(
I take it you're young, because if you weren't you'd know that there is nothing any corrective eyewear can do to counter all the degradation in vision that occurs as you get older.
The trouble with changing the resolution is that it makes the display look blurry; I didn't find it helped me.
actually i know glasses make vision far worse. your eyes become reliant on corrective vision glasses and when you take them off you notice your eyesight is far more blurry than it ever was before! :)
why i say specsavers is because ive know games ruined by font size changes..... seriously, forgot what game it was now but a while back there was a game with ok level font size, then people complained it was too small and next minute they changed it and then half the text is off my screen and everyones saying its perfect! LOL .... thats why i say specsavers :)
I tend to get cranky about vision nowadays. I used to have near perfect vision, and now i don't, but I don't wear glasses (except when legally required to), and (generally younger) people are full of advice about how I should wear glasses. Apart from certain very specific situations, I don't find glasses help much. I still have to put the bloody light on to read anything in the evening.

You can set your resolution there. Also you can disable the intro movie there as well.
can you change the resolution there and to let it run in fullscreen?
but why can't the dev now implement a resolution option ingame? i mean with the steam release this kind of standard should now be introduced. it shouldn't be too hard to implement i imagine and some new players could get some real problems with no res option as it seems.
besides lowering the desktop resolution, have you tried incresing the font sizes (there are several options) of your desktop? those affect the game aswell. before the universe release i had to switch resolution OR increase font sizes on my new computer to be able to play the game. on 1920 x 1080 it was quite hard to read, but decreasing resolution and / or increasing font size helped me. luckily after universe i don't have to do it anymore and they work fine on my 21.5" monitor.
