Resorts at Black Holes?
So it's supposed to be possible, given the listed scenery bonus, but I've lost two construction ships to the things. Or at least I give them the order, then look at the list 10 minutes later and they're just...gone, and I never got notified about pirate attacks.

Do you have to click on a certain portion of the graphic? I was just clicking on the central event horizon, because I thought it would automatically find the "best" spot, cause that's sorta what it does in every other case. Do I click farther out in the accretion disk?

lol...haha...well ...he surely had the best spot to view this phenomena x'D.

i would recommend you either use the quick toolbar (left screen corner, middle area) or select the black hole and use the button below the detail screen. if you rightclick and select build -> resort base then the base gets build where you did your rightclick^^. so you basically ordered your construction ship to fly to the center of the black hole and build a resort base at this spot. don't worry, i'll tell ya if he comes up in my game x'D.

this rightclick -> build command is handy when i build my spaceport and research stations at the beginning, so i can have my spaceport in the middle of my colony and all the research stations at its corners and still on top of my colony so that they are well protected :).
You should pay attention to the minimap with this. You want to be as far towards the edge of the blue disc on the minimap as you can.

Or you can just select the black hole and build a resort base via the quick toolbar like Xerberus said.

yep, you don't want your tourists to get sucked into the void, would've been bad for business cause customer relationship x'D.

You should get thrown into the vortex for some serious lack of competence! :D

Just select the black hole as a system and click build resort base in the left lower corner window. Done.

Building stations near a blackhole requires some attention and micro-management.
Else your construction ship and/or station will get sucked up into the singularity.

Zoom in on the black hole, click on it so that it's selected in the bottom left, then use the buttons in the bottom left of the screen to queue up a resort station for construction. A construction ship will then place it at a safe spot and you won't need to worry about a thing.

I had the same problem and got the construction ship to build at the black hole without warping in close enough to be sucked in by selecting the black hole while zoomed out on the map.

Besides, isn't being sucked into a black hole the ULTIMATE black hole tour?

haha yeah, i didn't know what i did wrong the other day, ususally it doesn't happen, but my construction ship finished the resort base IN the super nova. i was wondering why i got no tourist income. as i looked at the resort base, it was holding the last 10 points of its shields (like really, zipping between 9 and 11). now resort bases or bases in general have stronger shields than ships duo to its size, so imagine what must have happened to the poor passenger ships trying to unload their tourists. i call that a warm welcome :D.

That would be a great place for those "resettle" ships which carry races you do not want on your planets. Where did they move? Who knows *whistle*

What if... You select the resort base, CTRL-right click on it, and give it to one of your enemies?

This is gamey at least...and I'd probably even call that an exploit, but sure, go on if you wish :P

Edit:
Now that I think about it, I wouldn't be surprised if the AI later destroyed that base. It might not be Einstein but it will not keep a resort base that makes no money at all :P

Actually, fast investigation, show that each black hole have 4 safe zones around for building a resort, that will work, and will not be sucked into black hole. It's possible to see these zones out of BH circle, just by hovering the mouse cursor around the circle and see at what position the black hole name will appear at the bottom of the screen.

See image[www.matrixgames.com]

Be aware, if station is built very close to the black hole cirle, it will begin to move into the event horizon, and destroyed. Build too far away (at the coordinates, where you are not see a black hole name at the bottom of the game screen) and it will not work. So, choose placement carefully.
Of course, it's possible to go via the method with pressing a "build resort base" button, when selecting the black hole, but at the most cases it will end in the lost of construction ship. In such "auto-mode" constructor exits from hyperjump very close to black hole center, then trying to get to construction site on sub-light engines, but can't overcome the black hole attraction and slowly moving to the center, where it eventually dies. My experiments shows, that constructor should have at least 50 units of sub-light thrust, to overcome the black hole force.

Also, there is an interesting bug (feature?) was found: you can build up to 4 resort bases per single black hole :)
