Super Laser?
Hey!

I bought the game recently (not steam) and I started a new game as one of those races in the DW Extended mod.

The thing is my explorer found this Capital Ship that has a huge bunch of weapons including a super laser of 30 000 firepower....Is this something pretty common? Because now I am the top dog militarily, and that for a while I guess. What can the super laser actually do? I cannot find information on it.

And a few weeks after, I fund this Lobos Fruit on a planet in my empire....!

hehe, lucky treasure you found there. no the super laser ain't something common, there are only two (or three) ships with super lasers in the galaxy hidden and i think also a ruin which has the super laser tech. other than that there is also 1-2 (or only one) capital ship with a planet destroyer if i remember correctly. those things are part of the distant worlds storyline checkbox. same with debirs field / ship graveyards.

loros fruit is one of three super luxury resources, they are VERY valuable both in money and in the bonus(es) they provide. there is only one source of each of those resources in the whole galaxy.

edit: duo to the loros fruit being one of the super luxury resources, this planet will be a prime target in later wars / skirmishes. you should protect it at all cost ;).

wow thank you for quick answer! So this is one of the lucky games! People will think twice before attacking me, and when I find the pirate base...they are in for a surprise haha. I like the idea of these hidden treasures like that.

How should I manage the trade for the Loros fruit, this is one part of the game which is not so clear at the moment...Like I built a mine on the planet, and left it at that. Then later my advisor said it was valuable and how I should trade it with my neighboor, and I said sure...but will it be traded for its full value automatically? Or I should step in and do it manually?

Thank you!

oh and can the super laser destroy planets?
Xerberus86 Jul 22, 2014 @ 5:28pm
well yeah, the super laser is quite strong but he has a pretty low firerate, so if you miss for example (which can happen) then the next salve will have to wait for some time. also the super laser has quite the maintenance cost and isn't quite small (if you have the tech and want it on your ships).

well you mine the loros fruit like any other resource, if its on the planet where you have a colony then it will get automatically mined, otehrwise build a mining station there. in the diplomacy screen, if you select another empire then at the bottom area of their detail screen should be a checkbox which enables trading this resource with them (should be enabled on default i think). if this is enabled then your traders will automatically trade this resource and ships docking at your spaceports will automatically buy the fruit if its in your storage. trading is afterall automated (you can only influence it by building mining stations and help the economy with more resource sources).

i don't think the super laser can destroy planets, for that you need a planet destroyer. but remember that a planet destroyer will like bombardment of a planet hurt your reputation badly, which influences how the other races behave towards you.

fyi, there are two kinds of ships you can find:

- fully intact ships, they only have to be explored / scanned by an explorer and then go into the control of the empire which found them (you, other empires or even pirates....imagine a pirate with a super laser :D).

- damaged ships which have to be repaired before able to be used, those ships are generally more powerful than the intact ones you will find.

the distant worlds and return of the shakturi storyline events bring in general elements to the game which are highly unbalanced, some players prefer to play without them but having some wild elements in the game makes for the most funniest scenarios in my book. if you have all storyline events enabled in your current game then you will have some nice treat later on (reapers from mass effect say hello :D).

haha about the shooting rate, I did an experiment actually, there was a space slug annoying some miners, so I sent that Capital Ship there and it was readying the laser, but it just did not shoot. In the end it launched some fighters lol

and thanks for the information! This planet will be my lifeblood then, the golden heart of my empire.

Thanks be to the Gods no pirate found it, that would be game over pretty quickly hahaha

I could see how some people might dislike these unbalancing elements, I guess the options are what makes this a good game eh :D
BigPygmy Jul 22, 2014 @ 5:40pm
Have you ever used the World Destroyer? There is no real point to destroying planets I suppose eh, other then bloodlust lol
smidlee Jul 22, 2014 @ 6:39pm
I never got one repaired yet before the game ended. It take many years to repair a planet destroyer.
Xerberus86 Jul 22, 2014 @ 6:53pm
yeah it takes several years, even with multiple construction ships. haven't tried one out yet. but i also found the superlaser tech once. well if you encounter the shakturi (they are much like the reapers in mass effect), then you will see a bloodlust race with two planet destroyers ;).
tryonedustbiter Jul 22, 2014 @ 9:13pm
I found a planet destroyer in my last game. By the time I got a construction ship down there, somebody else was already repairing it. So, I repaired the other ship hulks around it and made them all into a fleet. Later on, in another sector, I found a ship graveyard and started repairing those too. The game ended before I got even one of them repaired.

I've had "abandoned" ships that I went to explore. As soon as my exploration ship got close, the abandoned ship woke up and was part of one of the pirate factions. The pirates didn't have any other ships in the system.

So, you have to start early, if you want to use the planet destroyer...That is kind of reassuring in a way :D

man can't wait to see the Shakturi! In the story I just got a warning saying not to do stuff with monoliths maybe....I am kind of nervous, but I got a super laser! no need to worry. :P

So there are ship graveyard eh, that will be interesting to see; so Tryone, the abandonned ship was like a trap laid by the pirate?

The Ancient Galaxy Storyline game was cool, because their World Destroyers caught me by surprise, and destroyed one of my worlds.

In another game I used a World Destroyer to blow up the Shakturi homeworld. Poetic justice.

In another game I invaded the Shakturi homeworld and so got their World Destroyers as well when their empire was defeated, so I had 5 of them.

In the AI Improvement Mod they are a researchable item (very late game) that any Insect Race can build.

In short, World Destroyers are cool!

So does the game not end when you take the shakturi homeworld? I've only ever had them reveal in one game (in over 200 hrs!- thats right! took me that long to get to grips with the game :p ) and have yet to defeat them.

You know oddly enough...

I had a planet with the Zentabia Fluid that was towards the lower left hand side of the map in a spiral galaxy...( More and denser planet clusters towards the center, fewer and more scattered around the edges )

And the planet was the complete opposite direction I was trying to grow...so I grabbed it and figured I'd be spending quite a bit of effort trying to protect it.

I was busy elsewhere and figured I'd give it some minimal protection for now and get the benefit for it as long as possible...I also though perhaps an Empire near it would try to steal it...which would open the door for me to grab a few of their planets.

But alas it seemed the game held little care for it...other than an occasional half hearted pirate attack, it was mostly left alone.

I had less defenses protecting it than worthless systems that happened to have a slightly useful resource.

So did you experience the other empires greatly wanting your super luxury resources?

Ri0Rdian Jul 23, 2014 @ 1:45pm
Well, they do need to know about that resource on that specific planet, and its location. Otherwise they really will not care, since they have no idea about its existence :P

Well I wont say the whole galaxy knew, but I know several pirate factions and at least 5 races knew.

Again it was around 25% through the game I claimed it, and the rest of the way I had maybe a pirate raid or two.

And the game took about 100 hours.

I could have just been doing too well, it wasnt using the 0% tax exploit, and I was #2 to the Ancient Guardians or #1 at the time.

So perhaps no one wanted to start anything...considering no one declared war the whole game thats probably the case.

well having a valuable resource like that puts this planet on a higher value than normal planets and thus making it a higher attack target in terms of priority. it also heavily depends on your game setup. if aggression level is normal then the game tends to be not so warmongering which you might know from other 4x games. i usually play on restless :).
