Pirate-centric Mods?
Are there any mods which are focused on playing as a pirate?

Yeah, I've looked around and never found much.

Feels like the DWU mod community has sort of stopped moving forward, which I suppose is the way of things. Probably will see some interesting new things when DW2 comes around.

The "little" problem is also that the modding ability's are not that huge and great. Because of that there are no mods that change fundamental things but as you said, i'm hoping DW2 will be DW but even greater and with better mod support. :D

Really? I saw some of the mods and was pretty impressed with what they were able to do. It may have been just mostly cosmetic changes, but it felt pretty in-depth.

I've gotten to the point now I just won't buy many games that don't have extensive mod support. The mod communities can really extend the play-life of a game, sometimes totally reinvigorating it after you lost interest.

Same for me i still play "old" games because some of them have good mod support like skyrim.

And sure some mods for DW looking really cool, i actually use the ai improved mod and i love it. :D But for me, "great" mod support would enable things like bigger maps, components that have brand new funktions. But a lot in DW is hardcoded and unable to reach for modders.^^

The developers for Distant Worlds encrypted and obfuscated their code starting after DW:Legends. It made it much harder to mod game mechanics. Hard, but not impossible. I've modded my version of DW to have player controlled passenger ships, civilian ships with up to 10 weapons, and many other fun (for me) changes. My intent was to release these changes as a mod but have since been informed that it would violate the use agreement so I can't. If you REALLY want to make game mechanic changes though I'm here to tell you that it is possible.

Oh thank you fox-fellow. :D Thats a bit "funny" that they tried to denie modding? Because with universe they say like, "we open the whole game for modding for you our dear players". xD But still i hope for DW2 they give us an huge pool of tools to mod the game.

If they don't, they may find a lot of people aren't clicking that vital "buy" button. Modding functionality is becoming an expected feature in these sort of games.

It's something I've noticed as a trend in recent years. There is an increasing number of gamers who are not content to let the game company dictate the methods by which the product can be enjoyed. They demand more options which is delivered in the form of modding.

While there are still many gamers and types of games which have no interest in this flexibility, I think if a breakdown is done, the observer would find that those who enjoy and purchase larger-scope 4x-style games are more likely to fall into the category of those demanding modding.
