Blurry fonts
Hello.

I bought the game not long ago. I knew it was a pretty old game but I was very hype for it.

However the blurry font in game tutorial causes me some headaches which sadly is a no go for the whole game - which seems VERY interesting.

From what I gathered from internet this seems to be an old, well known issue. But I did not find any solution or even any hint about the cause of it.

Do anyone know about the actual cause of it ? If it's a windows 10 issue, on which windows version does it work ? If it's a resolution issue, what resolution works ? Is it a LCD monitor incompatibility ? If I have to switch to some cathodic that's not that big an issue...

There is Bacon Mod which makes text more readable by removing some shadow effect from the font. But it's a huge mod which brings a lot changes and improvements, so I would suggest at least playing one campaign vanilla, if you can that is. The mod itself has a settings file where you can disable most of it's features, so maybe try that.
The improvement to the font is a minor one, but I guess it's better than nothing.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried it and I think there's a slight improvement... However that's still not quite sharp.

I had an accident with my eyes a short time ago and cannot bear any blur. The worst thing is I can play the game, only the tutorial font makes my brain tilt... Sadly it's far too complex to learn by try and retry....

Well, if it's only the tutorial then perhaps you should look at youtube videos to get the hang of it.
Many people suggest DasTactic's vids: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImB1MBJeGLo&list=PLGB6RkFB7ZmNxjw-XsdpbmTfYStObtNFc
I personally learned mostly by following the guides https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=263885042
and https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=266988099
Though probably would've been easier with the video tutorials. :)

Thank you very much for theses answers. I'll definitively dig into it very soon. This game promises me to hit the "fundation's itch" scratching me for years... That's still not the "Dune's itch" but that's already something... Especially after so many years trying one 4X after another.

You're welcome. I haven't played those two, but from my limited experience with 4X (Civ 5, GalCiv 2, ES1 and 2, Sins), I would probably put DWU as my number 1 among these, or at least as fun as ES2, though very different in style and scope.
The only downside is the old engine that isn't quite stable with the largest maps and long campaigns, but with the DW2 coming later this year perhaps we will have a greatly improved version of the game. Something to look forward to. :)

I recently put out a topic that is just a few topics below this one. The second half deals with blurriness and is written so even a novice should have no problems. Look for the title "Solution: "Play Distant Worlds" button doesn't work on launcher".

This game is a real gem and playing it mostly manual vice automatic makes it feel like you are really commanding an empire. Those videos listed above, and the full manual link are very good to watch/read.

Desert planets and sand slugs - I didn't know this, which shows just how much thought the programmer put into this game. Lucky for us, the same guy is programming the sequel (coming out this summer).

Yes ! It still is a bit blurry but it's perfectly readable now.

Thank you very much !
