The down/smash angles are just a fantastic alternative to the up angle, giving you a lot of room to screw with your opponent's timing.
His special has two inputs- The first determines which direction the ball will arc (forward/backward, up/down), and after the arc starts, the direction you hold will determine which way the ball will shoot off after hitting the wall/floor. So if you're facing your opponent and you use the special, you can hold towards them to arc it over their heads, and then hold the opposite direction to fling the ball right back into them.
Or you could hold the same direction, so it flies to the wall and comes back, for even more control over the timing.
Overall, he's a really fun character.
That's assuming your opponent makes a mistake, of course.
His down angle and his smash are pretty interesting. The smash definitely makes it easier to downbunt him, although, if your opponent misses, it's devastating. As for his down angle, it's just about the only thing I can think of that can actually kill...
His special is interesting, though. By using it, you give your opponent tons of free time to run over to the ball and steal it. If they don't grab it in time, though, you can send the ball either left or right at an extremely shallow angle, which is somehow more devastating than Switch's special given that it starts at the bottom of the stage and works its way up. If you're to use his special on a ceiling or wall, the different angle can really confuse people; especially if you get it near the wall and the floor, but it's hard to tell which surface it actually landed on.
Overall: Like the old Candyman in the respect that his faults are made up for with his extremely flexible special. He has absolutely pitiful angles, good charge times, fast acceleration/top speed, fast vertical acceleration, good short hopping/high jumping, semi-tall crouch animation, semi-tall hurtbox, small hitboxes, and a special that can be used in more situations than even Switch's specials.
The special definitely tips the scale to make him one of the better characters. Not my cup of tea, though.
