Season 1 does not need to be installed, but your Season 1 save files need to be in the location that Season 2 is looking.

Season 2 will look for Season 1 saves in this location:
PC:
C:\Users\Username\Documents\Telltale Games\WalkingDead
Mac:
~/Library/Application Support/ Telltale Games/TheWalkingDead

Season 2 will only find save games for completed episodes from Season 1.

If compatibility mode was used for Season 1, you'll want to use it for
Season 2 for the saves to be found, or you will need to move the
Season 1 saves to the locations the game is looking normally.
Hi, I have the problem of season 2 not being able to find my saves from season 1. I've definitely completed all of season 1 and the 400 days dlc but have since uninstalled them.

I can find the season 1 save files in the location you've specified above; a SyncFs folder, prefs.prop and save_1 to save_28.

I can't remember if I ran in compatibility mode but if I did, how do I start Season 2 in compatibility mode?
How do I know if its found the saves? Just booted up Season Two and it made no mention of finding my Season One saves. Do I need to start the episode in order for it to look? Don't wanna start it unless I know it will take my Season One saves.

you guys should make a tool so people can just pick what (major) decisions they made in Season 1. I understand you might worry people might abuse that somehow, but I think it would be a good compromise for many people. for one thing I know a lot of people played the first season on a completely different platform
My two cents: I had to play TWD season 1 in compatibility mode because of the startup crash. So to get my saves into TWD2 I had to copy from C:\Users\Public\Documents\Telltale Games\the walking dead to C:\Users\Me\Documents\Telltale Games\the walking dead. That worked for me.
For anyone having trouble still, read Tronix's post. Copy-paste your season 1 save file directory (which might be in another Documents file, it was for mine) into C:\Users\Username\Documents\Telltale Games/

Worked for me when my save files weren't found.
Still not working, even if i paste all my different save files into C:\Users\Username\Documents\Telltale Games\WalkingDead

The first season was in compatible mode i believe, even tried to play season 2 in the same mode (windows 98) and it wouldnt even start
It's not working for me still either. And now I can't find the saved games for Season 1 now that I've booted that up!

I have two Walking Dead folders. I deleted them (after backing up the contents) and started up Season 1 to see where it started to store the saves. It created both folders again, putting SyncFs in the Public Documents folder and prefs.prop and save_1-28 in the My Documents folder.

Also, the created folder was "the walking dead" rather than "Walking Dead". So exactly where is Season 2 looking and exactly what files constitues my Season 1 saved game?
Same here.I'm not even seeing the point to play it then.
