Dunno, didin't go for it, but I don't think you can alter anything during that kitchen part- all actions must have the same outcome given where the episode ends up.

Nothing he grabs it first and ask where it should be placed in the kitchen to test Clem. I didn't give him an answer so he just put it in a drawer
