Issues with proton/wine on Linux
Hey.

Using any version of proton higher than 7.xx seems to have an problem where you can only launch the game correctly once, then every time after that, the splash screens don't show up and screen is only blank. You then have to delete the prefix in steams compdata folder to get the game to boot again. I can't use proton 7.xx because performance is far too low (goes as low as 20 fps even though on newer proton versions my laptop gets 120fps on max settings).

I've tried proton experimental, proton tkg and proton-ge 9.xx. All of them can only successfully launch the game one time before being required to delete the prefix.

Has anyone else had this sort of issue under proton/wine with this game?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

EDIT: Running arch linux kernel 6.13.7-2 cachos.
Laptop is a zyzen 7 zen 3 (can't remember AMD's silly laptop names)
1920x1200 screen resolution

Game version 1.3.13 from GOG (which is where I bought the game) works flawlessly for me using GE-Proton9-27.
More info on my setup:
  • os: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
  • kernel: 6.8.0-57-generic
  • cpu: Intel® Core™ i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz × 12
  • gpu: GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
  • gpu drivers: nvidia-driver-550 metapackage

Thanks for the info LexEst. Our setups look mostly comparable.

I wonder if anyone else with an AMD gpu on linux could chime in? I doubt it's an AMD driver issue - it would be weird for a driver to allow the game to consistently boot up once per prefix but then never again. Then again, it's already pretty weird hahah.

cd <path to your steam install>/steamapps/compatdata/2608270/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Roaming/intravenous2

Edit your user_settings.cfg and set render.screenMode to 0

Not a guaranteed fix, but i had the same problem.

I am running this on Proton 9 and an AMD GPU, give it a shot.
I'm playing on steam deck (desktop mode) with latest proton - no issues whatsoever.

confirmed fix works on Proton Expermental with a pass-through vm running Void 6.6.18, amdgpu and xorg. performance near-identical as if it ran on W10

it was pretty annoying for a while having to clear game data every other start
