Steve AI
I don't know if I'm just bad at the game but I hate babysitting Steve and he is constantly screwing me over. How do I make him more useful?

Friendly AI is generally bad.

If you are going for stealth and didn't want steve to screw things up, then you shall make him stop, then use your body to push him in a corner, then go knockdown enemies(forget about ghost rating). After you clear a path, you can make him follow you and finish the level.

If you are going loud, stuck him in a corner, then do the fighting by yourself.

My playstyle usually revolves around running around, taking out lights, and just wacking everybody I see. Next time I have to do a level with him as an AI partner, I'm gonna do that so he doesn't screw me over.

Agree with that. And just make sure no enemies will wander around his location, otherwise he will fire, compromise himself, then get himself killed.

Steve generally pulled his weight when I played through the campaign, but any time I had him following me it absolutely turned into an all-out firefight. Trying to be stealthy with the not-Punisher following you around is just asking for disappointment.

Best way to utilize his AI if you actually want him on your back rather than stuffing him in a corner while you deal with everything is to go loud and keep moving. Blast anyone dumb enough to poke their head out and never let yourself be in a position where you can't keep moving forward.
