Game will not launch
I can't seem to launch this game. I've tried a few of the solutions provided here by other people but nothing has worked. One of the developers has been responding to people telling them to email info@nicalis.com so I did that 2 days ago but so far no response so I am trying my luck here. This is the email I sent to them.

I have downloaded 1001 spikes through Steam and am unable to launch the game. When ever I click on play or double click the game from my library the Steam window will pop up saying it is preparing to launch. This window is only up for less than a second. Next to the title name in my games library section the word Syncing will pop up for only a fraction of a second and then nothing will happen after that.

I have looked into this problem on the steam forums and have seen a solution that I tried to no avail. It was suggested that the game was missing the openal32.dll file. I looked for this file and did not find it anywhere in the games files. I then applied the solution of downloading the file and putting it in the same folder as the .exe file. When I tried to launch the game I was met with a white window titled 1001 Spikes and a smaller window telling me assertion failed.

I have attached the gamelog.txt file as that was requested by a developer when answering someones question. I would like to also point out that until I downloaded the openal32.dll file and installed it, the gamelog.txt file did not exist. I also tried to download the game to another computer on the same Steam account and was met with the same exact problem.

I hope you are able to help me because I would really like to play your game!

Thank you,

Daniel Park (steam account: meninsupersuits)

In ...\Steam\steamapps\common\1001 Spikes\_CommonRedist\ you'll find installers that should have been used when launching the game for the first time.

Since placing the openal32.dll file in the game folder made some difference, I can only assume that either you skipped the installations, or for some reason, Steam just didn't automatically execute the installations.

I suggest manually running the installers and then reporting back.

mtomato you were correct and that fixed the problem. In the _commonredist folder there is an Openal folder and a vcredist folder. In each of these is an application. In the /steamapps/common/1001spikes/_commonredist/openal/2.0.7.0 folder is an app called oalinst.

In the /_commonredist/vcredist/2010 folder there are two applications, vcredist_x64 and vcredist_x86. Choose one based on your operating system. x64 for 64bit and x86 for 32bit operating systems. Running both of those programs made the game run for me as mtomato said. If anyone else has this problem this is another solution to try.

sadly that didn't help me, the game ran fine for a few days and then now just crashes on start up and no it hasn't anything to do with my anti-virus(i checked)
