Is the coop local only? If it is, are there plans to add online play in the future?

From what I have heard, it is local only. A real couch co-op game.

Multiplayer In steam means Online play
But sadly a lot of games that releases on steam now that has only Local coop says multiplayer for 2 reasons
1 - to sell better then you get disappointed
2 - they dont actually know that they can say " Singleplayer , local co-op "

Multiplayer generally means modes where players play against other players, More specifically for this game the multiplayer tag refers to the Versus mode.

Multiplayer meaning online play is your own interpretation. However Steam should absolutely separate local multiplayer from online and vice versa. But they don't, so there you go.

Spelunky is a Coop game LOCAL Coop and also has 4 players deathmatch mode , and it doesnt say mutliplayer ...

No it doesn't. Multiplayer means Multiplayer, not online multiplayer. If it meant online multiplayer it would say Online Multiplayer. This game has Multiplayer, so it says it has Multiplayer.

Additionally, there is no Tag for Local VS Multiplayer, and tagging those as Local Co-op would be so wrong. So there in no other choice other than the "Multiplayer" tag.

Really, Steam is the one at fault here, there should have been an "Online Multiplayer" Tag for so long now.

It may have been that way in the past. But there are several games that have the Multiplayer tag now without having online.

Therefore the Meaning of said Tag has changed, understandably, because there in no other tag that would apply correctly. People need to stop saying "But it means online MP" and accept that it no longer does so.

I don't normally expect it from indie games. The cost and time it takes to put in online is really offputting, and normally there won't be anyone playing online after a few weeks anyway.
