Hope this helps!
The quest, however, goes on. 8)
There's a folder called Resources in the games install directory. (Either go to where you installed Steam/SteamApps/common/1001 Spikes or right click on the game and click view files.)
Who would've guessed that it is such a easy fix, just go into that resources folder and under sounds/music and either replace the .ogg music files with some music you'd like to play (same filename and in ogg format - you can simply search e.g. mp3 to ogg converter online and you'll find a tool!) or simply cut them from the music folder up into the sounds folder, that way, you can simply put them back in when you want the music back, I've just tested to see if the game works fine without the music and I've had no issues, I have yet to try different music, it could be that that might give some problems regarding size or so, but I think it should work flawlessly.
Sorry that I didn't search into this earlier, but this way of saving all kinds of data (even levels n stuff) makes it very easy to mod, simply edit what you want :D
I might take some time and re-imagine some songs if I find some time, 'cause I love music, and I do agree that it gets rather repetetive, but I think, easiest would just be that you just remove the music from the music folder and you can pop in any song you want to play in the background, bam, free choice with soundeffects :D
I hope this helps!
P.S. if you're feeling bored of how the graphics look, you can just pull some images into GIMP and go to Color/Hue and Saturation and you can play around and like, e.g. make the lava purple or the greens more vibrant :D
Enjoy!
