launch failure : game.exe stopped

Hello everybody,

I have got a problem when launching the game.
When I double-click on the icon, the game starts normally but he stops before showing the first video (before the main menu). Then Windows says me that "game.exe" stopped working and the game quits.

I do not understand because I bought this game 1 week ago and it worked well until yesterday.

Could you help me please? (I am on windows 7)

I've just had the same problem. I've clocked up 97 hours on this game without any technical problems, but after today's Steam update, I get the same problem as you. How do we tell Steam that their update was faulty? Help!!!!

You still can run a game from the game directory

Can you explain this to me like I'm 5? I'm not a computer wizard by any means.

Ok. Thank you BluLegion, it works well.
But I can not launch the game with steam directly. I have to click on the icon in the file : STEAM\steamapps\common\Desperados Wanted Dead or Alive

Is that normal ?

Your must Start the game.exe at the Folder as Admin then its work but it works Hell laggy now .Before that i had the same Problem ..... Steam well work :(

Go to your game folder, wich should be "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Desperados Wanted Dead or Alive" and extract the rar in the same folder with game.exe.

After the February 4th Steam update, I am having the same problem with the game.exe crashing on start. I can't start any of the PopCap games either. When is Steam going to fix this? I shouldn't have to go into the game folder to launch the games.

Same issues, followed lots of forums and nothing works. Windows 7, I have verified the files and put the folder game.exe to admin which stops it crashing the moment I load it but now at any point in the game it will just randomly stop working. Sometimes at the start of a level sometimes half way through the same level, even at the end. Its very random when it decides to crash and very frustrating that Steam would sell a broken game to people. Apparently there are loads of files missing from what I've read. I also have that cone issue where the game slows down the moment you check the enemies field of view.
I can't even get passed the first level without it crashing. I managed to beat it one but before it could load the 2nd level it crashed again, so I was unable to save my progress lol

From what I've seen this problem seems to date back to 2013, a good 3 years now. So if there has been no true fix now, then I have a feeling this game will never be fixed. T_T

read SLOWLY the pinned thread "Workaround Windows 7 / 8.1 / 10"
Run DxWnd first, (right click) set as administrator
with your game.exe (right click) set to compatability for Windows XP (SP2)
can be run from the steam PLAY button, but be sure DxWnd is running first
should be problem free
(I'm running Windows 10, but DxWnd is your friend works even without the DSwin8.zip ddraw.dll)
