Windows 10 Desperados Lag Fix 05/13/2016 (EASY FIX)

My fix was removed due to new Steam links removal list, so I will put the new fix down below.

Desperados, on new Windows versions, have 3 major problems:
- Game crash (with or without a message windows), it returns you to Windows desktop.
- Game slow (or extremely slow)
- Mouse lag or mouse "pseudo-blocked" sometimes.

There are 3 principal DX/D3D Wrappers for trying to solve it (and for many other games):

- WineD3D (Version 1.7.52 -stable-, and 2.14, the actual "dev" version). Compatible for "emulating" DX1 to DX11 versions.

- DDrawCompat (v0.2.1 - stable, and the last "dev" version is from Dec 22 2016). DX1 to DX7

- DXGL (0.5.11). For "emulating" DX1 to DX7

WineD3D looks great (based on Wine for GNU/Linux), but, I was not able to run Desperados "perfectly" using it, I had to use DXGL to make it work perfectly (DDrawCompat didn't work "perfectly", either).


DXGL, futhermore, let you to configure some parameters for the games (it include a config app/frontend).

- Correct ascpet ratio stretch, change resolution or to center the image of the screen (without scaling it, a small windows); using bilinear filtering or not; to execute the game in a "exclusive fulls screen mode", "non-exclusing fullscreen", window mode, borderless windows, or borderless windows scales.

- For 3D games, it let you to apply MSAA, Anisotropic; crop to display, stretch to display or expand viewable area, etc.



You need to download and install it. but i'm gonna share a zip file with the 2 only files needed. For Desperados, you need to look for the "Game.exe" file in your installation folder (I bought GOG version, in my version it is not in the installation folder, it is the "Game" folder, wich is into the "installation folder").

When you find the folder wich contains "Game.exe", copy the two files in the same dir/folder.

The launch Desperados, it will work but with the default config.

Get out from the game, execute the "dxglcfg.exe" file.

It should recognize "Game.exe" inmediatly, click over it, and change the options.

If the "Game.exe" file don't appear in the "dxglcfg", click on "Add", it will open a windows for exploring you PC, look for the Game.exe file in it, and change the configuration as you want.

This is how i like it. Applying Bilinear Filtering and Fixing the Aspect Ratio.

This fix only works if you launch from dxwnd.exe file every time. First time you launch from steam it goes back to lagging again.

Not sure, but at least you can play it without lags with this fix I've posted. Just keep saving in-game after you did a few steps, and when it crashs, you can keep going on and play from where you have saved. The devs somehow do not want to fix this game itself, they just want the money and don't really care about this game anymore.

Okay will do, thank you, I've notice when I set the game to single affinity, it didn't seem to crash so far when modifying that fix, will see how it goes the more I play it.

Seems setting it to single affinity helps in the dsfix under compatibility, haven't experience a crash so far after playing two missions.

Amazing! Well but there is still a problem, with this fix you can't get hours for steam, since it will open as a single game on your computer only and not thought steam. I will take a look tomorrow to see when there is a contact form on their page to ask for a proper fix, maybe a single .DLL to put in the main folder or anything like that might help as well.

Try to change the game resolution, if it still not working, try to run the .exe in another compatibility mode like WinXP or something higher.

The only problem i have is when the enemys vision is on the game so slow its impossible to play. Anyone any ideas to help please

The only fix to solve such lags is the solution I have posted in this thread above at the top of this thread.

1) Unzip the .rar file Desperados no Win8 e Win10.

2) Open the folder DLL Desperados Win8 e Win10.

3) Copy the three files aqrit.cfg, ddraw.dll, ddraw16.dll.

4) Go to Steam folder of Desperados C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Desperados Wanted Dead or Alive

5) Paste the three files into this folder you just opened.

6) Open the folder DXWNS v2.03.44.

7) Run dxwnd.exe as Administrator.

8) Right click on Desperados and hit Modify.

9) Change the Path to the game.exe in folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Desperados Wanted Dead or Alive\game.exe and hit OK.

10) Right click on Desperados again and hit Run.

Done! Have fun playing without any lags.

PS: Always run Desperados from dxwnd.exe, if you run Desperados from Steam, then it will still lag, since the dev team is not really working on it for a fix.
