Help! Stuck! A bug? Polly problem

I think I have found some sort of bug in the game that I just can't get past. Looking at walk-throughs online has only confused me more.

I have got to the bit where Polly is behind the staff only door and all the walk throughs say you need to click to the left and right of the keyhole to tap once or twice for yes or no. I click everywhere and this does not happen!

The walkthroughs also say that you can see Polly's eye through the keyhole, this doesn't appear. I hear her voice but just see an empty room. The walkthroughs also say that you read in her journal about the one knock for yes and two for no idea but which journal? I have read the one in her bag and the one she leaves on the steps and neither of them even mentions it!

Am I missing something or is there something wrong with the game?

This confused me at first, too. It's one of several differences between the original version of the game (which most of the walkthroughs were written for) and the Director's Cut (which is what's on Steam). Apparently, there is no communicating with Polly in the Director's Cut...you just look at the crack at the bottom of the door, and she'll slide the piece of paper to you.

Thanks. I figured it out and just completed it now. The trouble with some of the walkthroughs I find is they claim to be for the director's cut but give directions for the old one.
