Alien Marauders is one of my favourite TAB-likes.

That game was abandoned sadly.

I'd say Creeper World 4 fits that category.
Cataclismo, If you like building legos, I'd say give it a try. Although it features a campaign mode currently, it is not finished yet(left in a cliffhanger).

But it's still fully functional, works perfectly and has more content than most other games in the genre.

It even added another playable faction.

There's also Infested Planet, I think the series is technically dead now but the games are fully finished. They're more RTS and less base building though

This beautiful game sadly got double teamed by terrible dev decisions (spyware controversy, always online on a single player game) and a gaming community that screamed for a proper TAB successor and then IGNORED the proper TAB successor. It still boggles my mind that this game flopped with only around 300 reviews in total. Totally crazy.

At least we have riftbreaker now. It is not the same, but it is a fresh take on the genre.

I also can recommend mindustry if you want a combination of TAB and factorio. That game is insane.

Edit: my personal (opinion) rating would be:
1. Riftbreaker
2. Mindustry
3. Creeper world (if this counts for you as similar enough)
4. Grim nights
5. From glory to goo
6. Alien Marauder
7. They are Billion
8. Rise to Ruins
9. Kingdoms and castles
10. dont know which other defense games I know

Yeah people, don't sleep on the "Creeper" series.

Started as a browser game, over time and iterations even went into 3D (though I have yet to play one of those)

More a Tower Defense at heart, but it's actually pretty close, main base module, you have to connect your buildings, etc. Main enemy is fluidic, interesting concepts to deal with it encroaching.

Highly recommend taking a a look, possibly at the newer releases if you liked FGTG.

Someone mentioned age of darkness: final stand - big warning here, the dev's haven't done jack to that game in like 3 years. Campaign has basic brain story, something an edgy emotional 14 year old would appreciate though I guess. Campaign is piss easy and short.

Game is full of bugs that have been around for years that the developer's just straight up act like aren't a thing, or they lie and say they fixed it but never does. Tons of issues with the game and lying devs.

Couldn't recommend a game LESS than I could for Age of Darkness: Final Stand, total garbage developers.

I absolutely recommend Rise to Ruins.

Its a game that went really early into early access and was one of the first few dozen games to enter the program and it was from the start a labour of love.

Its also totally underestimated. I have barely seen or played an as brilliant game as Rise to Ruins.
Also rarely have i seen a game that looked so incredible using pixel graphics. It has a pixel fluid mechanic, it has light physics, its half a god game and half a strategy game.
It features a world map mechanic with regions you can conquer and connect through trade and such, it has a loot mechanic (you gain score for your progress, which gives you keys to open chests of different rarities and gain buffs for your strategy gameplay).

If by any chance you like city building, survival, defending against monsters, get Rise to Ruins.
Probably the most polished game i have seen in decades (the main menu alone is worth a purchase).
