Am I the only one...
who absolutely hates that you need to put connectors everywhere and that it takes ages to build stuff?
Its so infuriatingly slow paced, and then at the same time the game is like "haha already at 150 cycles! times up!" when I barely left my starting zone and made zero research or even had the chance to do anything on the ship

And im used to playing TAB on max difficulty without pausing...

This game requires more micromanagement than TAB and Age of Darkness while at the same time giving you less time per per income cycle. I did once time how many seconds there was per income cycle and while I don't remember the exact results, FGtG had easily the lowest amount of time.

In TAB, great players can manage economy almost as well with no pause as with pause, but I don't think this will be true for this game. A middling player with 10 hours of experience playing with pause will probably have a better economy than someone with 200 hours of experience playing with no pause. I have not found a single video of this game on YouTube where someone playing with no pause has anywhere close to my level of economy during a certain cycle and my skills are rather middling.

Anyone can decide for themselves if they think that's good or bad, but I can say that the difficulty of this game comes almost entirely from the high number of actions needed per cycle from the player compared to the time allotted for completing those actions. Nothing else makes this game any more difficult than TAB. In fact, I'd say this game is way easier than TAB when both are played with pause.

The ship can actually help you get more Effort tremendously.

Agree Pause is fairly essential to micromanagement, much more than TAB. Timing on resource generation, build times, cycle times definitely needs adjusting... Have not even managed to get to the final 2 stages of research on the longest match time, plus Usually only have time to fill the slots on the Frigate, forget the bigger ships, and the frigate slots are never fully upgraded.

There is something a little weird about the timing of things, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I *think* it has to do with the research population requirements. For me I'll easily spend most of the game, as in the first 3 or 4 waves, having only unlocked the second tier of research, I have no military (just solo'ing with the Commander and turrets), no advanced buildings.

Typically this is because I am limited by water production, especially on the desert map, but even on the temperate maps it requires encasing huge swathes of land with turrets if you don't find geysers, which is in itself very time and resource intensive. But once I do get some water, suddenly I explode into the next 4 or 5 research tiers in the span of one wave with huge Biome compounds taking up a third of the map.

At this point I have so much resources that I'm having to open the ship menu every 30 seconds to construct another 4 modules, rinse and repeat.

I'm usually then just barely before the final wave hitting the final tier of research and adding a layer of force fields to my walls. Then I maybe get a few of the plasma turrets and pump out a couple of the advanced mech units and planes.

But then the game ends.

So it just seems like most of the game is spent crawling along with almost no progression until, boom, the floodgates are opened and you get all of it nearly at once.

Not sure I have any real feedback beyond that it seems like a lot of the tech buildings are a bit too far up the tree. The first three tiers feel good, but so many buildings like the Hydroformer and Recycler, which are your only real tools to balance out your econ, only unlock when you no longer need them.

I felt like in my runs so far I unlocked next to nothing, got nowhere at all. And then final wave hits. I think im gonna shelve this for now and check out rift breaker instead

You will not be able to do all researches in game that does not have maximum length, unless youa re super pro player, in which case, please share your knowledge with us.
Also I think only 3rd and 4th map (they come with more waves) will be long enough for that, but I may be wrong.

And if you want to unlock captains, you just need to check what they require before you start next game.

That's a good point. I like to play on the Seth 148 map, which is the longest base cycle length.

On Oasis it might be very hard to get late tier research without going Epic of Endless.
