What is different between DRG and DRG:RC ?
I am eagerly waiting the next installment obviously but I am wondering what is new or different between the two.

DRG has more chill moments with mining, where Rogue Core amps up the action and intense moments more, with less mining. The Reclaimers are there to shoot things, not mine things.

And of course Rogue Core has a bigger focus on increasing power as you play and engage with level ups, etc. as a criteria for a successful run.

Additionally it is also more flexible when it comes to class and equipment combinations. You can for instance have both a flamethrower and cryo cannon at once.

DRG:RC is basically a "pistol start" where the majority of the progression happens in each session, and the mission structure is longer.

I guess that's what they mean by rogue-lite?

Why would they choose that game model over the current one instead of making it a mode?

They said that they were originaly thinking of making it a gamemode but then that it got to different so they had to make it seperate.

I see
The settings a bit different too. Roguecore will still be in caves obviously but will feature more procedurally dwarfmade generated ruins and mining facilities, and the enemy types will also be different where it isnt glyphids but corespawn who are freaky cavedwellers

In lore, we're a different type of dwarf squad.

In DRG, we're miners and engineers.
In Rogue Core, we're a security force commando unit.

Our mission is to investigate Deep Dives from DRG that have lost communication, and figure out why so many deep dives have gone dark. Depending on what we find, mission objectives my escalate from there.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Very interesting, I am eagerly waiting for its release :)
Ok, but couldn't you just add another game mode to drg? Seems like a waste of resources to make a separate game instead of a decent or update. Other than that it sounds goods to me.

"The fact is, there is no reason to do this, technologically speaking. You can just bootstrap one system over another depending on the game mode."

In a perfect world there wouldn't be, but there actually is. DRG has evolved into a massive beast and all the systems are intertwined. As the game has grown, so has the scope, to the extent that adding something like new primary weapons is a gigantic task, as that means 4 weapons x 6-8 overclocks and 4 x 12 modifications + 4 x 17 frameworks, not to mention the paintjobs that has to fit. We've shaped the game as we've gone along, and that has allowed us to make a better game that aiming at a goal set years earlier. The cost has been technical debt, and interesting, but probably a less modular/optimal framework to work within.

While Rogue Core has DRG DNA, it's not DRG and not just a game mode. It's a new loop, with new systems, potentially a lot more classes and old and weapons that you pick up during a run that aren't class specific. It's not a deep dive with roguelike elements at all. It might not be for people who like DRG, and that's fine. It might appeal to people that doesn't like DRG, and that's fine too. Point it that it's related, but significantly far removed from the original concept, and it deserves it's own shell, and not being tagged onto something that is great on it's own. We're very happy with how DRG has turned out, and once we have Rogue Core in a place where we want it, we'll look at what the future for DRG holds.

One of the dev's answer to a similar question, hope it helps.
