The thing is... Within a chapter Gray Matter is very non-linear. While walkthroughs are very linear. That isn't a problem if you play the game from the beginning until the end of a chapter using a walkthrough. But if you only start using a walkthrough after you got stuck looking for the situation that seems to match your own, it often happens that in the walkthrough things has been done that you haven't done so far. And suddenly the instructions of the walkthrough don't work anymore a few steos further for that reason.
But Gray Matter has two helpful hint systems.
1. task dependend progress indicators
2. map name color code that tell you where are still things to be done
1. Open the progress screen with the 'P' key. Have a look at all tasks to find out which tasks are still missing points (tasks where still things have to be done). Note down all points for the not completed tasks and post them here. From the missing points we can guess which things still have to be done. And maybe you get an idea on your own.
2. Open the map. Look at the colors of the location names. Name in golden letters means that something has to be done here to finish the chapter. Name in silver letters means that only something for the bonus task is left to be done here. Name in gray letters means that everything has been done here that can be done in this chapter. Please post all location names displayed with golden letters. In combination with the missing points we probably can make a good guess what's still left to be done in this chapter.
I asked for some info the game offers in each situation. Using this info I can probably make a good suggestion what's left to do. And I explained why using a walkthrough with Gray Matter often leads to the impression that everything necessary has been done while that is not the case.
So please post the points (not the percentage) from the progress screen ('P' key) for all tasks that are not shown as completed (100%). And post all locations names from the map that are displayed in golden letters.
I have a list with the amount of points you get for the different actions for each chapter and each task. So from the amount of missing points and the location info I can make a good suggestion what's probably left to be done.
If so, than you encountered a known bug.
If you get some points in a closeup view that are connected to some automatic actions relying on progress, then these actions are played if you leave the closeup view (probably for technical reasons). If you left the closeup view using the map after these actions the location you selected at the map is loaded.
The problem is, if you collected the last points of a chapter in a closeup view and left this closeup view using the map, than the transition actions/cutscenes for the next chapter are played. But then the location of the chapter you've just finished is loaded. And since you've already collected all points there is no way to end that chapter again and get to the next chapter. You're stuck.
The only solution is to load an older savegame and end this chapter again.
And remember the following important rules for Gray Matter:
- never use the map in a closeup view
- never create a savegame in a closeup view (you can't open the ingame menu using ESC in a closeup ciew, but you can open the ingame menu using the icon in the inventory if you are in a closeup view)
- ALWAYS leave a closeup view using the exit button
If you don't have a savegame near the end of chapter 4, I can provide one. Just ask. ;)
Also, this website provides saved games, but it is pretty old, so I can't guarantee they will work on the steam version. https://mysterymanor.net/atticsavesg.htm
