A lot of people have already reported that Gray Matter runs on their Windows 10 systems.
I also use an up-to-date Windows 10 64 bit version and Gray Matter runs like charm.
If Gray Matter doesn't work for you on a Windows 10 system I would try to help you to solve the problem. Just describe what exactly happens, what you've already tried and what the basic specs (video card, system memory, processor, ..) of your system are.
1st Gray Matter needs some DirectX9.0c libraries. You don't need to fear to downgrade your current DirectX version. DirectX 9-12 libraries can simply coexist at the same system. You can download the needed DirectX9.0c setup here: Link[www.microsoft.com]
If you doubleclick the downloaded file it only gets extracted to a chosen folder, you have to install DirectX from that folder with a doubleclick at the dxsetup.exe. The setup program only installs libraries that aren't installed yet.
2nd Gray Matter needs "Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1". Some people think they have a more current "Microsoft .NET Framework" version already installed, but the "compact" package is something different. You can download it here: Link[www.microsoft.com]
Have a look in the "Apps and Features" list in the Windows settings that "Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1" is installed. If not download the installer from the link and install it with a doubleclick at the downloaded file.
After you've installed the DirectX9.0c libraries and ".NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1" try to start the game again.
If the game still doesn't start check if all game files were downloaded correctly with the respective steam feature: Link
Afterwards try to start the game again (especially if some files were downloaded).
If the game still doesn't start try to lower the graphics settings. In the steam client go to the Library and make a rightclick at the Gray Matter entry. Now chose "Display Cconfiguration". Now a config tool appears. Disable Vertical Sync and Full Screen. Chose a medium resolution like 1280x720. Disable Shadows and Mirrors. Rendering should be set to LOW and Quality to CUTOM. Now click at Save and Run Gray Matter. If this works you can then try to raise the graphics settings again step by step.
If this still doesn't work please provide some details about your system. That it can run modern games doesn't mean that there can't be some kind of compatibility problem with certain games. So please post the amount of system memory, processor model, video card model.
The game itself was developed by a developer that no longer exists. The main publisher also no longer exist (game was released on steam by a former distribution partner). So something like a patch simply won't happen. But its also not needed. The game normally works perfectly with Windows 10.
So you have to ask yourself. Do I want to play Gray Matter?
If so please try the steps I suggested. They aren't about modifying Windows. They simply add libraries that don't affect Windows or other games/programs unless they use these libraries.
If you say thats too much work you should ask steam about a refund.
You should get a Nobel Prize lol. It worked. The second link is inactive, but the files in the first one were sufficient for game start working.
