Invalid username. Can't even register.

I seem to be getting the same problem: whatever nickname I put in - it says "Invalid username". What's the problem here?

Sometimes restarting Steam entirely can clear up this issue - registering accounts should be working fine currently but maybe there was some temporary issues with checking available usernames yesterday.

I am having the same problem, Also getting a popup telling me to turn off my anti-virus software because the game cannot connect to the server.
