Zero vs Generations
Which is the better game? I hear in the first one you play the main character as well as his descendants, which is kinda weird for me as I like a good story and that will be tough to have with a long line of descendants which keep dying.

I assume this is the better game?

Somewhat. The gameplay is the same, but they made the engine better. (xbox 360 of Agarest war it took a minute to load a battle where zero it took 5 seconds). Story wise both are ok. But Zero has a digest mode where you play though the orginal story line with lots of cut content to give you a better sense of the overall story.

Zero only has 2 generations, while the 1st has 5. (I am not sure how Digest mode is as I have never gotten to it But I think I remember hearing somewhere that you can't choice your spouse or something)

But I love Zero more myself. Even though it only has 2 generations, it gives more time for the characters to develope themselves. In the 1st game the generations were going to fast for me (Granted that if you take out battles since battles are slow; more so in the 1st game where loading the battle takes forever. Not sure if it was fixed in the PC release)

Can't choose spouse, choices don't matter. It's locked into the true ending, no dungeons, can't use all the characters (until the DLC anyway).

I prefer Zero because of faster pace and a little of character customization.

I got both because we need more JRPGs on steam. Support the devs that are bringing in JRPGs onto steam/pc.

For me i prefer zero cause it really good to have 2 generations only ( more solid story ) . while war its really boring for me ( repeatable map ) , dunno i only play until 4th generation on war and quit :D:

If you can't choose your wife in the extra game mode, how do you open up the gallery pictures? Don't you have to marry all 3 to do this? Thanks.

In Digest mode all non-specific-event pictures opens automatically.

Jep, generations of war were alot repeatable, and thus kinda boring - while i miss some party members from the first one, the 2nd also got some nice chars. The descendant choice affects more and overall your descendant customization is better. From the first one i only enjoyed the first and last episode (2,3 and 4 were kinda boring).

It's safe to say that both Agarest games gameplay are pretty much the same with a few new tweaks in Zero such as having a better UI and being able to go back to read conversations if you missed them while you're chatting with characters.

The story is solid like the first Agarest but obviously, there are only 2 generations here compared to the 5 in the original which I actually prefer compared to the latter because while 5 gens made the game really expansive and introduced a lot of characters, and interactions, I felt like they didn't get as much character development to Zeros' characters for some of them, more specifically, the heroines for each generation. We don't get to learn or know more and by the time we did, it was the end of the generation. Now I'm not saying I dislike that because Agarests' one of my favorite franchises but I felt it could've been much better if it spent more time on character development for various characters, especially gen specific characters like Noah, Hildegard, Duran, etc.

While I miss the first Agarest, I'm going to have to ultimately pick Zero, because I just enjoy the characters more overall since they've had better development, the story felt more fleshed-out and depth even though it was fairly generic like the first one and since the game doesn't feel like a long chore compared to the first game, where it take forever to absorb everything in such as high difficulty spikes in combat or trying to avoid monsters in a dungeon and finishing all 5 gens (especially on true end). I wanted to do another playthrough but after 150 hours to complete my first playthrough, I just wore myself out.

In the end though, I still love both games and I'm really excited to look forward to Agarest 2. :OrangeSurprise:

I will say Generations, because I like the 5 gen thing. Yes it takes forever to beat, but just beat it on hard, who says you have to beat it all at once.
