To simply put it, loading a cleared saved file from Agarest 1 just gives you a minor boost to begin Agarest Zero. All that is involved is that you have a clear save and in Zero under New Game there will be an option to load your save file.
Yes from the save file you get some Items and points, the Items are The Antediluvian Cosh, Geriatric Cuirass, and the Eld Emblem. A weapon, an armor and an accessory respectively.
The stats for the weapons are:
Antediluvian Cosh (Staff):

It doesn’t have to be a true end save file, just a save filed that cleared the game in any mode. If you have a true end save file it is just up to where you beat Chaos in the boundary plane for the story mode.
You are correct in that Extra Mode is unlocked when you choose to load a clear saved file. Extra mode is basically Hard Mode for Agarest Zero.
Also Extra mode unlocks Digest Mode, an abridged version of the first game (no battle points only events). It follows the True End and your choices will have no effect on the story line but will still affect the affections of the heroines. Although the affection is insignificant to your bride choice as it chooses the cannon brides for you automatically (unless it is changed from the PS3 and Xbox Version) which are Fyuria -> Valeria - >Lavinia -> Hildegard. Although that isn’t to say that the affection level does not have any meaning. The Affections are used to unlock certain CG from the previous game.
Now don’t get confused this isn’t the full game of Agarest 1. It is an abridged version and certain events are missing. Also Extra Mode unlock certain characters from the first one, basically only the heroes and heroines (Once you complete a generation) plus Ellis and Dyshana. You receive Leo and Ellis early on in the game with the others spread throughout Zero.
TL:DR: You can use any save file, doing so unlocks Digest Mode and Extra Mode, and you get some ok starting armor and weapons plus points.
Please NOTE: that this CAN be changed for the PC version. My information comes from my own experiences on the Xbox and PS3 versions of the game.
and so extra mode is hard mode? without clear data would i have had to start on normal then do hard mode? (is that correct? thats somewhat lame imo as i like to always play on the highest difficulty)
Yup, if you don't load your save the only available difficulty is normal mode. And just like before if you start on normal only the points carry over to Extra mode. Items won't carry over.
Yea I like playing on the highest difficulty too, and Extra Mode is hard but not as hard as the original.
Dunno who you're talking bout pal. I cleared it on xbox 360...and PS3. And now PC. Get on my level scrub! XD
you realize the DLC tha comes with the game only makes you OP till midway through the second generation, right? :P
