Therese actually killed Jeanette when she killed her father. The trauma from that event created the seperate personality.
"They're making a movie about the Bush administration?!"
"They're making another Share Bears film?"
"They're making a movie about the game industry!? They stole my idea!!"
Toughest dialogue choice.
In one of the newer flavor text books for V:TM V20 edition, Beckett's Jyhad Diary, there's a not-so-subtle reference to Therese/Jeanette and their implied sire. Her (or their) sire is also split into two minds, but actually totally unaware that they are the same person. Still, their sire's split personalities are also at odds with one another. The similar affliction, and the sire-childe relationship seems to imply that Therese/Jeanette inherited this particular type of madness from their sire.
Whether both sisters actually existed or not, I think remains a mystery. As for the painting in their office, it could've been made after their embrace. There's no evidence to the contrary, other than the fact that one of them didn't truly exist as a little girl, therefore not really having a real face or likeness to be painted. However I'd argue that the creation of an entirely new personality comes with their own memories, thoughts, and images of what they used to look like, even if they didn't really exist. That's the power of Malkavian madness.

poor Chunk...
Maybe, but I find it difficult to care about retconned lore from White Wolf since they made Himmler into a Tremere.
The only things we really know about the sisters are what can be gleaned from in-game, non-modded conversations.

I don't think I have anything that will wash away that sin.
