True patch gold edition changes?

I just bought this game and had heard great things, so I was planning to go in not knowing anything.
However, I was confronted with the fact that you need to patch this game before playing it.
It appears that the patch mentioned in the title is the big all-inclusive patch, but I can't really find what it actually patches.

Are they just bug fixes, or also extra content?
Also, the website is 18+ for some reason, does that mean that it adds adult content to the game as well?

I just got this answered in another stickied thread so I figure I'd share what I found out.

Basically there are two patches: Unofficial Patch 9.2 and True Gold patch.

Background:

There is another patch out there called the True Patch. There was some drama behind it. It was made when the Unofficial Patch was not separated into Basic and Plus, with another guy taking some of the code and calling it his patch. Now that there's separate options in the installer, there is no need for this patch

Differences:

• Tess's patch "The True Patch" hasn't been updated in years
  
• The True Patch reportedly causes a memory leak in the game
  
• I've had crashes using the patch probably because of this memory leak
  
• The Unofficial Patch 9.2 now fixes pretty much every bug and is used as the base for a lot of VTMB mods.
  
• The Unofficial Patch 9.2 is now as basic as you can get. It's just bug fixes (like The True Patch - so there's no advantage either way)
  
• The Unofficial Patch 9.2 includes a lot of extra goodies and even gives you automatic widescreen as well as a few other technical improvements
  
• The Unofficial Patch gives you restorations and some nice cut content (if you choose the plus options in the patch installer)

So you're saying I should use the unofficial 9.2 patch?
Also, the gold patch needed you to remove the game from your steam folder, is this also the case with the 9.2 patch?

Side note(s):

You might want to grab the SweetFX to apply some graphical enhancements. You can see some before and after screenshots here: http://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/666/ with the download links. Granted, not necessary at all, but, your choice.

Given the bullets listed under "differences" I would lean towards the unofficial patch 9.2, yes. But, that's just my opinion though! :]

TPG is the less effective patch. It hasn't been updated in years, it gets no support from its creator, and doesn't fix as much as the Unofficial Patch by Wesp5. The UP has two modes when you install it. UP Basic and UP Plus. Basic ONLY fixes the many bugs the game has and changes nothing about the game beyond that. UP Plus fixes the bugs AND alters some things and restores some new content to the game. The UP also gets updated regularly and Wesp5 is active within the VtMB community to assist layer with issues as best he can.

You do not need to move the game to install the UP. I would recommend making a copy of the clean VtMB install and moving it elsewhere so if you decide to try one of the big mods like Final Nights, which is not compatible with the current UP as it has an older version built into it, you don't have to redownload VtMB again.

Just uninstall, delete the VtMB folder, copy your copy and paste it into the appropriate area within your Steam stuff. Then tell Steam to install the game. Steam will see the clean copy and go "Oh, it's already here, don't need to download." and thn you install your new mod. Or a new version of the UP when 9.3 releases.

True Patch Gold should be banned for good reason. I feel bad for you. It´s unlucky that you clicked the firt sticky that links you to the old forums since everyhwere else the UPs will get mentioned exclusively.

I recommend UP Basic if you want to experience the vanilla game, but if you want to experience the game in its full glory, UP Plus is where it's at. It's really up to you. Just keep in mind, if you install UP Basic and play, then decide you want UP Plus, you will have to install UP Plus onto a CLEAN install of VtMB. You cannot "upgrade" a Basic install to Plus later on. It causes problems.

Just DONT use true patch gold..find the link to Unofficial Patch 9.2 .use the mirror site nearest you , download, install and enjoy the game :)

That is awesome to know. I was always told you can't upgrade the Patch later on.

I hope I didn't tell you this because I've always done this :) You can't go from Plus to basic, but you can go from basic to Plus --> as long as you make a new save game like Wesp said.
